Using the HP-UX 11i v2 DVDs on an HP-UX 11i v1 (B.11.11)
System
If you plan to read the HP-UX 11i v2 DVDs on an HP-UX 11i v1 system,
or update HP-UX 11i v2 from a depot on an HP-UX 11i v1 system, then
you need to install the PHKL_28025 patch in order to read the DVDs.
The PHKL_28025 patch is in the GOLDBASE11i bundle as of June 2003,
which you can find on the Support Plus media for HP-UX 11i v1 or at the
following web site:
http://itrc.hp.com
NOTE PHKL_28025 supersedes PHKL_25760.
Update-UX Creates Two Backup Configurations
Starting with the March 2004 release of HP-UX 11 v2, Update-UX will
create two backup kernel configurations from the update process. These
configurations are:
• /stand/backup: contains the latest updated configuration and any
changes that you have made since rebooting your system.
• /stand/backup_prior_to_update: contains your configuration
saved prior to updating to the latest release of HP-UX 11i v2.
If for any reason you need to revert your system to the earlier
configuration, you can use the kconfig (5) commands to mark
/stand/backup_prior_to_update for use on the next reboot of your
system. Otherwise, you should boot to /stand/backup to ensure that
your system will run on a good configuration.
IMPORTANT There is no guarantee that booting to /stand/backup_prior_to_update
will work correctly since it restores only the kernel and not the rest of
HP-UX. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you backup your
system using supported HP backup software prior to updating your
system. For more information, see “Backing Up Your System” on
page 79.
