Missing Patch Bundle ReadMe Files on OE Media The HP-UX 11i v2 OE media sets are missing Readme files in the DOCS/PATCH directory. These Readme files contain information about changes in the HP-UX patch bundles that are delivered on the HP-UX 11i v2 OE media. Specifically, the bundle.readme files are missing for the HWEnable11i and FEATURE11i bundles. What To Do You may download the missing bundle.readme files from the HP IT Resource Center Web site: http://itrc.hp.
File Missing Messages after Performing a swverify If you perform a swverify on your system once you have cold-installed or updated to the HP-UX 11i v2 September 2006 release, you may encounter the following messages: * [140108] Checking files for product "PHCO_33081,l=/,r=1.0". * [140112] Checking files for fileset "PHCO_33081.VEA-FILESET,l=/,r=1.0". NOTE: [40252] Volatile file "/opt/VRTSob/jre.tar" missing. NOTE: [40252] Volatile file "/opt/VRTSob/jre_ia.tar" missing.
Potential System Panic on HP Integrity Servers The HP networking tests have found a system panic on some HP Integrity servers using HP-UX changes from the HP-UX 11i v2 September 2006 OE release. Affected servers will include a panic: Bad News! message followed by a stack trace that includes a tcp_rput+0x22a0 entry. What To Do Install the PHNE_34671 s700_800 11.23 cumulative ARPA Transport patch and the required dependent PHNE_33732 s700_800 11.23 cumulative STREAMS patch.
Removing HP Servicecontrol Manager If you are updating your system to the latest version of HP-UX 11i v2, and HP Servicecontrol Manager is installed on your current system and you do not want to run it in the future, you can remove the HP Servicecontrol Manager product after the update process.
Automated Management of nPartitions and Virtual Partitions On rx8640 and rx7640 systems running HP-UX 11i v2, the library call routine confstr(_CS_PARTITION_IDENT, buf, sizeof(buf)); will not return the correct value for the partition ID in npars mode or in vpars mode.
Performance Degradation with Patch PHCO_33675 and PHCO_34718 If you installed patch PHCO_33675 or the newer libpthread patch PHCO_34718 on your HP-UX 11i v2 system, applications on a loaded system holding shared mutexes for a longer duration may see a performance degradation. This problem is due to high spinning by threads contending for shared mutex. What to Do Set the environment variable PTHREAD_SHARED_MUTEX_OLDSPIN to "1 " to restore your system performance.
System Fault Management Installation Failure When cold-installing the HP-UX 11i v2 September 2006 release, the installation of System Fault Management (SysFaultMgmt) may fail and you may encounter the following error messages in the swagent.log file: NOTE: Registering SFM Provider module. ERROR: Error reading version of HP_FilterManager in namespace root/cimv2./var/adm/sw/products/SFM-CORE/FMD_PRO_COREIA/configur e[58]: connection: not found. ERROR: The "configure" script for "SFM-CORE.
What To Do After cold-installing the HP-UX 11i v2 September 2006 release, check the swagent.log file. If the error messages shown above are present, remove the System Fault Management (SysFaultMgmt) product from your system and reinstall it as a stand-alone component. 1. Log in as superuser. 2. To uninstall System Fault Management, enter the following at the command prompt: # /usr/sbin/swremove SysFaultMgmt 3.
EMS and CIM Server May Fail to Start If you are updating from the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 release to the HP-UX 11i v2 September 2006 release, the EMS Hardware Monitors in the Online Diagnostics product and the CIM server in the WBEM Services product may fail to start. This problem prevents WBEM Services, Online Diagnostics, and System Fault Management from working properly. Symptoms of this problem include the following: 1.
If no monitors are returned by the ps command then the problem exists and you must remap your hardware and restart the CIM server as described below. If monitors are returned from the ps command, enter cstm at the cstm command prompt and then enter map. If the output of the map command displays "Unknown" for all devices other than for the System device and the Memory device, then the problem exists and you must remap your hardware and restart the CIM server as described below.
4. Exit cstm: cstm>exit To restart the CIM server, complete the following steps: 1. Log in as superuser. 2. Enter the following command at the HP-UX prompt to stop the cimserver: # cimserver -s 3.
Inefficient Memory Use in CIM Server Daemon In earlier versions of libc on PA-RISC systems, libc used a single lock in the malloc routines to make them thread-safe. In a multi-threaded application, there may be contention on this single lock if multiple threads are calling malloc and free at the same time. On HP-UX 11i Version 1.5 (B.11.20), libc provides multiple arenas, malloc can allocate space from, and a lock for each arena. Threads are distributed among the arenas.
In general, the more threads in an application, the more arenas should be used for better performance. By default, eight (8) arenas are assigned to multi-threaded applications. However, for certain types of multi-threaded applications, the use of multiple arenas can lead to inefficient memory use. In particular, configuring the CIM Server process, cimserver, to use more than one arena can cause the process to grow extremely large.
To implement this fix in earlier releases of HP WBEM Services execute the following steps: 1. Create a new directory /opt/wbem/lbin. 2. Verify that the /opt/wbem/lbin directory has the same permissions as the /opt/wbem/sbin directory. 3. Move the file /opt/wbem/sbin/cimserver to /opt/wbem/lbin. 4. Create a new /opt/wbem/sbin/cimserver file that contains the following script.
