Problem Description/Action
Core file Generated
During Update
If you are updating your HP-UX 11i v2 June 2007 OE to the
HP-UX 11i v2 December 2007 OE or a later release, you
will see a core file generated by the cimprovider command.
The core file is generated because of an EMS script
(/etc/opt/resmon/lbin/mon_EMSHAProvider_state.sh)
that runs every 15 seconds. This script is executed by the
cron. The entry for this is made in the crontab by EMS
during the installation phase. The script checks the status
of EMSHAProvider using the cimprovider command. If the
Provider is degraded, then the script attempts to disable
and enable the Provider.
However, during an update of the OE, the WBEM product is
in an inconsistent state. None of the WBEM commands
(including cimprovider) should be executed during this
phase. The EMS script does that and causes a core file to be
generated.
What To Do
You can safely ignore this defect as it does not cause any
data loss or loss of functionality. If you wish to avoid this
defect during the update process you can do the following:
Manually delete the entry for
mon_EMSHAProvider_state.sh from the crontab
(/var/spool/cron/crontabs/root) file before beginning
the update process.
