Using dtcconfig
This chapter provides information about the DTC configuration procedure and
describes the basic use of the menu-driven configuration utility dtcconfig.
The following dtcconfig operations are covered:
• running dtcconfig
• choosing a menu item from the DTC Configuration Main Menu
• entering values at the DTC configuration menus
• using the DTC configuration function keys
• using the shell function key
• getting help
• exiting from a task or from dtcconfig.
Configuration guidelines
A DTC must have the following in order to function correctly:
• functional software —enables it to access the LAN, support networking
protocols, and manage connections
• configuration information —information on how the DTC and its boards,
ports and connections should behave
A DTC only contains some software in ROM, so the functional software and the
configuration information must be downloaded from the DTC Manager to the
DTC.
When a DTC is powered-on or reset, it runs a series of self-tests, then sends a
message requesting a software and configuration download. The DTC Manager
that has the files for the DTC responds by downloading the functional software
and the configuration information, and the DTC is then managed by the system
from which it received its download.
The configuration information for a DTC is contained in a file which is created,
modified and stored on the DTC Manager which “owns” the DTC.
