Known Problems and Workarounds
• PHNE_21217 (core LAN products patch), or any patch that supersedes it, must be
installed before the software product(s) is/are installed. System panics can result if this
patch is not installed prior to configuring PCI Token Ring.
• SAM patch PHCO_17792, or any patch that supersedes it, must be installed to obtain
SAM support for PCI Token Ring.
• If the PCI Token Ring adapter is connected to a switch port or MAU and a mutually
incompatible configuration is used, the driver and adapter may repeatedly try to connect
into the network and fail.
It is best to execute the shutdown script /sbin/rc1.d/K685pcitr stop, correct the
problem then execute /sbin/rc2.d/S315pcitr start. This has the side effect of shutting
down and restarting all Token Ring links on the system.
• PCI Token Ring and PCI FDDI do not co-exist when they share the same PCI bus on a
V-Class machine. At best, the FDDI card may be disabled, and at worst, the system may
panic or hang on boot. The problem is corrected with PCI FDDI patch PHNE_15670, or
any patch that supersedes it, and was fixed in the Application Release of August 1998, or
later, for PCI FDDI (revision B.11.00.03). If the Application Release of August 1998 has
been installed, there should not be a problem. A customer who has an earlier version of
PCI FDDI installed must install PHNE_15670 (or later) before installing PCI Token
Ring.
• A 100 Mb/s port on a switch will only support 100 Mb/s speed. A 16/4 Mb/s switch/MAU
port will only support 16/4 Mb/s operation. Care should be taken while connecting the
Token Ring adapters to the network.
• After upgrading from J1644AA to either A5783A or A4930A (or both), bundle J1644AA
may appear empty in swlist(1M)listings. This is ok.
• If more than one of J1644AA, A4930A and A5783A are installed together, the product’s
filesets and files will not be removed until all of the installed bundles are removed.
• Token Ring statistics are partially implemented. See the Installing and Administering
Token Ring/9000 manual.
• SAM does not support setting the RIF option. This can only be manually configured at this
time. See the Installing and Administering Token Ring/9000 manual.
