Chapter 3 71
The lanscan command provides the following output. (The HP DLPI
Support field has been removed from this output.)
To Create Device Files Manually
For PCI Token Ring
Device files do exist for PCI Token Ring, but are not to be
used/modified/created by users.
All Other Token Ring
To create device files manually for a Token Ring device, run the mknod
command. For example:
/usr/sbin/mknod /dev/lan1 c 103 0x010000.
In the example above:
The number 1 in “/dev/lan1” is the card instance number.
The letter c is for character device.
The 103 is the major number.
The 01in 0x010000 is the card instance number (Crd In# in
lanscan(1M) output): 1 = 01, 2 =02.
A detailed explanation of the mknod(1M) command is provided in the
man page.
The Token Ring device file created by the example command shou
ld be as follows:
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 103 0x010000Jan 28 08:58 /dev/lan1
