Installing the NIO CommKit Host Interface
Remove the Existing CommKit Version
Remove the Existing CommKit Version
If you are already connected to a CommKit network, you need to remove the
old version of the CommKit software before you install this version. If you
install this version without first removing the old version, you may leave the
system in an unusable or inconsistent state.
The older CommKit version may be installed on HP-UX 9.x or on HP-UX
10.x. or 11.x.
Removing CommKit From HP-UX 10.x/11.x
1 On the CommKit server, log in as superuser.
2 Notify all users that the system is being shut down:
# /etc/wall
message
3 Back up any site-specific CommKit files you may have—for example, dksrvtab
(or srvtab files), dkhosts, and dkuidtab:
# tar -cvf
deviceFileName
dksrvtab dkhosts dkuidtab
...
You may also have other site-specific files that you wish to back up. This
separate backup allows you to restore the configuration files easily under HP-
UX 10.x or 11.x, which has a different file system than HP-UX 9.x.
4 Stop all of the CommKit server and dkdaemon processes that are currently
running:
# dkitrc stop
5 Start the interactive swremove utility:
# /usr/sbin/swremove
6 Use the arrow keys to select the CommKit partition.
The product number, release number, and partition name vary with different
CommKit releases.
7 Select Actions > Mark For Remove from the menus to mark the CommKit
filesets for removal.
