Installing the Datakit Interface Boards
On the host computer in which you will install the Datakit interface boards,
perform the following steps:
1 Log in as superuser.
2 Check which users are currently logged in to the system:
# who
3 Advise the users of an impending shutdown.
4 Bring the computer to an orderly shutdown:
# shutdown -h
5 Switch off the computer.
6 Open the door to the card cage and determine which double-wide slot you want
to use.
7 Loosen the captive mounting screws on the two cover plates that cover the dou-
ble-high slot and remove them.
8 Slide the first interface board into the double-wide slot.
For the K-Series, install the board in the lower two-thirds of the card cage.
9 Tighten the screws on the top and bottom of the board.
10 Install additional Datakit interface boards as needed, up to a maximum of eight.
11 Switch on the computer.
Make sure that the top-center edge of the board fits in the top groove of the slot.
Orient the board so that its components face in the same direction as the other
boards already installed in the computer.
If the board is oriented correctly, the transmit (TX) and receive (RX) light-emit-
ting diodes (LEDs) are on the top half of the board’s edge, and the cable connec-
tors are on the bottom half.
