Installing the NIO CommKit Host Interface
What the Installation Process Involves
What the Installation Process Involves
The complete installation process involves the following steps:
Installing the Datakit interface board
Cabling the Datakit interface board to the data switch
Updating the VCS database with new installation information
Installing the CommKit software
You should install the Datakit interface board first. Then, you can perform
the remaining steps in sequence, or you can install the CommKit software
before you connect the board to the switch and update the VCS database.
The Datakit interface board is a standard HP-PB double-wide board. As
such, it requires two slots, one above the other. On the HP K-Series family
of processors, you must install the Datakit interface board in the lower two-
thirds of the I/O card cage.
The upper slot in the K-Series backplane does not have power or I/O signals.
Because the Datakit interface board expects its signals from its upper back-
plane connector (on the top half of the board’s edge), the top half of the
board must receive power and signals. Therefore, you cannot install it in the
upper two-thirds of the K-Series board cage.
CAUTION Take all antistatic precautions when handling interface boards. You way
wish to wear a wrist strap while you are installing the board. Refer to all of
the documentation provided with the interface boards.
This chapter is structured in sections that correspond to the steps you take to
install the Datakit interface board (or boards) and the CommKit software.
Make sure that you perform the steps in each section of this chapter.
