Setting Up Printers Attached to Workstations or Servers
Using NPRINTER.EXE
Command Syntax
NPRINTER [printer|printserver printernumber] option
NPRINTER.EXE can be loaded up to seven times on the same workstation.
This is because you can load NetWare port drivers for up to three LPT and
four COM workstation ports with NPRINTER.EXE (menu or command-
line).
The following table shows you options available with NPRINTER.EXE at a
DOS workstation.
Table 6-2 NPRINTER.EXE Options
Parameter Syntax or
variable
Description
Buffer B=number Overrides defined buffer size (3-60 KB). The default is 3.
Printer printername Indicates a Printer object for which to load the NetWare port
driver. Syntax requires either the printer name or the print server
name plus the printer number.
Print server printserver name Indicates the print server assigned to the printer you want to
load. Syntax requires either the printer name or the print server
name plus the printer number.
Printer
number
printer number Indicates the logical printer number of the printer you want to
load. Syntax requires either the printer name or the print server
name plus the printer number.
Show /S Shows the current status of all loaded NetWare port drivers.
Timing T=<1-9> Controls the duration of the strobe signal. The default is 1
(allowed range is 1-9). Assigning a higher number gives more
priority to the machine’s foreground tasks, which will in turn
slow down printing but improve overall workstation
performance.
Unload /U Unloads the most recently loaded NetWare port driver.
Help /? or /H Displays online help.
