NetWare 4.1/9000 Print Services

5-2
Setting Up and Servicing Print Servers
Overview
Overview
A print server is a software program that monitors and manages printers and
print queues. In NetWare Services, the print server runs as a daemon called
PSERVER. You can create print servers in NetWare Administrator and
PCONSOLE, but you can only start the print server at the NetWare Services
server.
Once you’ve started the print server, you must load a port driver for each
network printer attached to a workstation. If the printer is attached to a DOS,
Windows, load NPRINTER.EXE.
NOTE: The print server must be started before the NPRINTER software can be loaded. See
Chapter 6, “Setting Up Printers Attached to Workstations or Servers.”
Third party print devices that connect directly to the network are also
available. These products, when operated in either remote printer or queue
server mode, provide similar functionality to PSERVER.
