Product Overview
IP Mobility Support for IPv4 defines a protocol that allows transparent
routing of IP datagrams to a Mobile Node (MN) as it roams the public
Internet. Each Mobile Node is identified by its home address, regardless
of its current point of attachment to the Internet. While situated away
from its home, a Mobile Node is also associated with a Care-of Address
(COA) which provides information about its current point of attachment
to the Internet. Theprotocol provides for registering the Care-of Address
with a Home Agent (HA). The Home Agent sends datagrams destined for
the Mobile Node through a tunnel to the Care-of Address. After arriving
at the end of the tunnel, each datagram is then delivered to the Mobile
Node. There are two kinds of Care-of Addresses: Foreign Agent (FA)
Care-of Addresses and co-located Care-of Addresses. For the former
case, the encapsulated packet from the tunnel is decapsulated by the
Foreign Agent. For the latter case, the Mobile Node itself is responsible
for the decapsulation.
This product supports the following IETF RFCs and draft:
1. RFC 2002bis - IP Mobility Support for IPv4, revised.
2. RFC 1853 - IP in IP Tunneling.
3. RFC 2003 - IP Encapsulation within IP.
4. IETF Draft - Route Optimization in Mobile IP.
