Upgrade from SIM 1.0 to SIM 1.5

This section describes the SIM 1.0 to SIM 1.5 upgrade process. It includes steps to

update the previously installed SIM 1.0 application components.

Software Location The software depot referred to in this section is downloaded from the SIM Software

Depot at:

http://software.hp.com/products/SIM/download.html

NOTE If problems occur during this installation, refer to the System Inventory Manager 1.5

Upgrade to

Version 1.5

To upgrade to SIM 1.5:

1. Make sure all the SIM system requirements have been satisfied. Refer to the

“System Requirements” on page 9.

2. Log on as root to the system that you’ve chosen to upgrade.

3. Use a Web browser to download the SIM software depot to a directory with at least

35 Mb of free disk space.

IMPORTANT This installation procedure refers to the /var/tmp/ directory and the

SIM_1.5_1100_1111.depot (for HP-UX 11.00/11i v1) as examples of a typical

installation. Replace the directory and depot names with the actual names of the

temporary directory and depot you want to install from.

4. Use swcopy to copy the software in the depot file into a temporary depot:

/usr/sbin/swcopy -x enforce_dependencies=false \

-s /var/tmp/SIM_1.5_1100_1111.depot \*

@ /var/tmp/SIM_1.5_1100_1111

5. Upgrade the SIM components including Java SDK and Tomcat if necessary:

/usr/sbin/swinstall -s [

system

6. Remove the directories that contain remaining SIM 1.0 files:

rm -rf /opt/hpapache2/tomcat/webapps/simgui

7. Remove the SIM 1.0 backup file to release disk space:

CAUTION Make sure your upgrade was successful before removing this file. Once this file is

removed, all SIM 1.0 data will be deleted.
