1 Support Plus User Guide
HP-UX 11i
Overview HP-UX 11i Support Plus supplies diagnostics and patches for HP-UX
core files, applications, and diagnostic products. These patches enable
new hardware and fix known defects. In some cases, a patch may deliver
new software functionality. All Support Plus software is cumulative and
replaces completely any previous Support Plus release for the same
operating system (OS) release.
This document describes recommended patch bundles, gives instructions
for getting started, and provides pointers for more information.
The Support Plus CD includes patch bundles that contain the following
software:
• Diagnostics includes Support Tool Manager (STM) for online
diagnostics, off-line diagnostics (ODE), Event Monitoring Service
(EMS) hardware monitors, EMS Kernel Resource Monitor, and the
Instant Capacity on Demand (iCOD) client product.
• Quality Pack depot contains:
— Base Quality Pack patch bundle which has all stable, defect-fix
patches for core HP-UX, graphics, and networking drivers.
— Applications Quality Pack patch bundle which has all stable,
defect-fix patches for the Operating Environment (OE)
applications.
Bundles in this depot are updated every six months.
• Hardware Enablement (HWE) patch bundle is required for new
systems and add-on hardware.

NOTE There may be overlap in the contents of the QPK and HWE bundles, as
each bundle may be used independently and contains all patches needed
to meet dependencies.
A few patches in each bundle will be identical, while each bundle may
contain patches that supersede patches in the other bundle due to the
different objective of each bundle.
