Note Important information about patches (such as warnings) contained in the Support Plus media may have changed since this document was initially published. To ensure you have the most up-to-date information, please visit the following URL and download the latest version of this document: http://docs.hp.
For the latest release information, see the Support Plus web site: http://software.hp.com/SUPPORT_PLUS If you have immediate questions or concerns regarding changes, please send email to the following address: supportplus@hp.com Note The terms HP-UX 11i Version 1 and HP-UX 11i v1 are the same as HP-UX 11i (B.11.11).
Media Kit Contents The Support Plus CD includes the following patch bundles, software, and documentation. Code and path name examples assume you mount the Support Plus CD to the /cdrom directory. • Hardware Enablement (HWEnable11i) patch bundle Provides patches required for new systems and for add-on hardware supported on HP-UX 11i v1. • Base Quality Pack (GOLDBASE11i) patch bundle Includes all stable, defect-fix patches for the Core OS, graphics, and key networking drivers.
• Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEEPlatform) bundle Enables HP remote support over the Internet. ISEE, a feature of select HP support contracts, replaces HP Predictive Support on HP-UX servers. • Instant Capacity on Demand (iCOD) bundles Includes the Purchase software agent in the B9073AA iCODpurchase bundle, and the Pay-Per-Use software agent in the T1322AA iCOD-utility bundle. • Bundle readme files Are available in text and HTML formats with hyperlinks to the patch text files.
• Detailed technical reference for patch operations Are available in PDF format in the /cdrom/PATCH_TUTORIAL.PDF file. Note The GOLDQPK11i depot on the Support Plus CD contains both the Base Quality Pack (GOLDBASE11i) and Applications Quality Pack (GOLDAPPS11i) bundles. Support Plus does not create a new HP-UX release. Support Plus provides you with patches to apply to your HP-UX release. You cannot use Support Plus to install a new operating system (OS).
Key Notes These notes apply to Support Plus releases for HP-UX 11i v1. With each release, check your system against this information: • Quality Pack (GOLDQPK11i) Bundle Updates The GOLDQPK11i depot contains the GOLDBASE11i and GOLDAPPS11i bundles. The GOLDBASE11i bundle provides defect fixes for the Core OS, graphics, and key networking drivers. The GOLDAPPS11i bundle provides defect fixes for HP-UX OE (operating environment) applications. They are updated every six months: June and December.
• Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEEPlatform) bundle The ISEEPlatform bundle enables HP remote support over the Internet. It is updated as needed. • HWEnable11i has patches to support GSP FW updates Please note these dependencies for rp7400, rp54xx, and Lclass servers with A6696B GSP cards and rp24xx products: • You must install PHNE_27760 and PHCO_28169 (or superseding patches) before system is updated with GSP FW Revision B.02.12 or C.02.17 or later.
These firmware patches are available from ITRC: - PF_CCANGSPB0220: rp24xx rev. B GSP, FW version B.02.20 - PF_CHARGSPC0214: A6696B GSP firmware version C.02.14 1. To download either firmware patch, go to the web: http://www.itresourcecenter.hp.com 2. Log in with your IT Resource Center user ID and password. 3. Under Maintenance and Support, select Individual Patches, then enter the desired patch number. Note You can also download a patch using anonymous ftp on the ftp.itrc.hp.com server.
Installation Overview The followings steps provide an overview of using Support Plus: 1. Deciding which bundle you need 2. Setting up access to Support Plus depots 3. Installing the patch bundles 4. Using bootable offline diagnostics and utilities 5. Listing additional information about help and documentation resources For detailed installation instructions, see the Support Plus User Guide HP-UX 11i v1. It is available at the following locations: • On the Support Plus CD: /cdrom/USRGUIDE.
OnlineDiag bundle needs to be loaded The September 2003 OnlineDiag version is A.42.00 (B.11.11.12.xx). If you remove or do not install the OnlineDiag bundle, some products with dependencies on OnlineDiag will not function correctly. To ensure the reliability of your computer system, HP recommends strongly that you load the OnlineDiag bundle: • Each Support Plus release provides the latest tools and hardware monitors. • Support Tools give you multiple protection against hardware failures.
Mounting the Support Plus CD 1. On the system, open a terminal window and log in as root. 2. Insert the Support Plus CD into the drive. 3. If necessary, define a new directory as the mount point for the CD drive. To define /cdrom as the mount point: mkdir /cdrom 4. If necessary, identify the drive device file: ioscan -fnC disk This command lists all recognized CD drives and their associated device files. The filename will be something similar to /dev/dsk/c1t2d0. 5.

Known Problems This section contains critical, last-minute information about patches on the Support Plus CD: • PHSS_29543 (Required Patch) • PHNE_26413 (Critical Patch Warning) • PHKL_27156 (Critical Patch Warning) • PHKL_27808 (Critical Patch Warning) • PHSS_29457 For more detail on patches and diagnostics, see the readme file for the product.
PHNE_26413 (Critical Patch Warning) A critical patch warning has been issued for PHNE_26413: PHNE_26413 - s700_800 11.11 nettl(1M), netfmt(1M) and nettladm(1M) patch 03/07/30 - This Critical Warning has been issued by HP. - PHNE_26413 introduced a potential denial of service security vulnerability. With PHNE_26413 installed, a nonroot user can cause a system panic. - This potential security vulnerability was announced in HP Security Bulletin HPSBUX0207-270.
PHKL_27156 (Critical Patch Warning) A Critical Patch Warning has been issued for PHKL_27156: PHKL_27156 - s700_800 11.11 PA-8800 p2p_bcopy optimization The following information has been added to the patch documentation for PHKL_27156: Warn: 03/08/05 - This Critical Warning has been issued by HP. - PHKL_27156 introduced behavior that can cause p2p_bcopy enabled processes to hang and become unkillable.
- HP recommends removing PHKL_27156 from systems experiencing process hangs with executables utilizing the MPI libraries. The only change implemented in PHKL_27156 was to pre-enable systems using the PA-8800 processor, which have not yet been released. Therefore, there should be no functionality lost when the patch is removed. - This behavior will be corrected in PHKL_28839, which will be released as soon as possible.
PHKL_27808 (Critical Patch Warning) A Critical Patch Warning has been issued for PHKL_27808: PHKL_27808 - s700_800 11.11 Filesystem buffer cache performance fix The following information has been added to the patch documentation for PHKL_27808: Warn: 03/07/31 - This Critical Warning has been issued by HP. - PHKL_27808 introduced behavior that will cause systems with more than 128GB of physical memory to panic at bootup. - The panic will occur very early in the boot process and will not save a crash dump.
- Observe that only systems with more than 128GB of physical memory are affected. Systems with memory upto 128GB of physical memory are not affected. - If the system successfully boots with patch PHKL_27808 installed then there is no need to remove the patch as this suggests that the system has no more than 128GB of physical memory. Should memory need to be added and the new total of physical memory will exceed 128GB then patch PHKL_27808 must be removed first.
PHSS_29457 The patch PHSS_29457 has been issued: PHSS_29457 - s700_800 11.11 Predictive Cumulative Patch The HP Predictive Support software for HP-UX servers will not function after the installation of the September 2003 release of the OnlineDiags bundle. While Predictive is not delivered on the Support Plus media for HP-UX 11iv1, the software may have been installed by HP Support Engineers from a depot that was previously available from the software.hp.com website. Customers must install the 11.
You can get information on the ISEE software on docs.hp.com, and install the ISEE Platform bundle from the HPUXAuxTools directory on the Support Plus media. For those customers that need the Predictive patch for their servers, please obtain PHSS_29457 for HP-UX 11iv1 from the HP IT Resource Center (ITRC): http://itrc.hp.com Starting with the Support Plus release for September 2003, the HP Predictive software is no longer delivered in the OnlineDiags bundle.
3. If the line 'PREDICTIVE=1' is displayed then the Predictive Software is enabled and you should install patch PHSS_29456 after installing the September 2003 OnlineDiags bundle. If the line 'PREDICTIVE=0' is displayed then the Predictive Software is not enabled and you do not need to take any further action.
