Welcome to Support Plus This CD booklet outlines the contents of the HP-UX 11i v1 Support Plus media, and describes features and known problems in the latest Support Plus release. HP-UX 11i v1 Support Plus delivers diagnostics and HP-UX system patches. These patches enable new hardware and fix known defects. In some cases, a patch may deliver new software functionality. Each Support Plus release is cumulative, and replaces completely any previous Support Plus release for the same HP-UX version.

Support Plus Changes for the June 2007 Release For the June 2007 release of Support Plus, HP updated the HPUX 11i v1 Quality Pack (QPK) patch bundle and Diagnostics bundle. Of the documentation, only the Read Before Installing Support Plus document was updated. The Support Plus User Guide HPUX 11i v1 was not updated so the December 2006 version was delivered to the June 2007 release.
Support Plus Changes for the December 2006 Release The following files were removed from the Support Plus CD. • PATCH_TUTORIAL.PS • USRGUIDE.PS The Support Plus User Guide is still delivered on the Support Plus CD in the USRGUIDE.PDF and USRGUIDE.HTML files. The Patch Tutorial document has been replaced by the Patch Management User Guide for HP-UX 11.x Systems, which you can find on the HP Technical Documentation web site: http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11i.
Support Plus Changes for the June 2006 Release For the June 2006 release of Support Plus, HP updated the HPUX 11i v1 Quality Pack (QPK) patch bundle and Diagnostics (specifically, the OnlineDiag bundle, which includes Support Tool Manager and the EMS Hardware Monitors). The June 2006 Support Plus media is available to all customers under a current support agreement. The HP-UX 11i v1 QPK is also available via the ITRC web site at http://itrc.hp.
Support Plus Changes for the December 2005 Release For the December 2005 release and later, the Offline Diagnostics (ODE) software is no longer available on the Support Plus media. You can now find ODE on the PA-RISC HP 9000 Offline Diagnostics CD that is shipped with your hardware and on the IPF Offline Diagnostics and Utilities CD for PA-RISC and Integrity systems, respectively. You can also order it from the Software Depot home by going to http://www.hp.
Media Kit Contents The Support Plus CD includes the following patch bundles, software, and documentation. Code and path name examples assume you mount the Support Plus CD to the /cdrom directory. Patch Bundles and Software • BUNDLE11i (BUNDLE11i) patch bundle Delivers required operating system (OS) patches. It is updated as needed. The latest revision number is B.11.11.0306.1.
• Quality Pack (GOLDQPK11i) patch bundles The GOLDQPK11i depot contains both the Base Quality Pack (GOLDBASE11i) and Applications Quality Pack (GOLDAPPS11i) bundles. They are updated with Operating Environment (OE) updates, plus additional web (ITRC) and media releases as needed, to maintain a regular release interval. • Applications Quality Pack (GOLDAPPS11i) patch bundle Includes all stable, defect-fix patches for HP-UX OE applications. The latest revision number is B.11.11.0706.467.
Documentation • Bundle readme files Are available in text and HTML formats with hyperlinks to patch text files. They are at the top-level directory on the CD. • Detailed technical reference for patch operations The Patch Tutorial (/cdrom/PATCH_TUTORIAL.PDF) document has been replaced by the Patch Management User Guide for HP-UX 11.x Systems, which you can find on the HP Technical Documentation web site: http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11i.
Installation Overview The followings steps provide an overview of using Support Plus: 1. Deciding which bundle you need 2. Setting up access to Support Plus depots 3. Installing the patch bundles 4. Using diagnostics and utilities 5. Listing additional information about help and documentation resources For detailed installation instructions, see the Support Plus User Guide HP-UX 11i v1 (December 2006). (Note that the Guide was last updated for December 2006.
OnlineDiag Bundle Needs to be Loaded If you remove or do not install the OnlineDiag bundle, some products with dependencies on OnlineDiag will not function correctly. To ensure the reliability of your computer system, HP recommends strongly that you load the OnlineDiag bundle: • Each Support Plus release provides the latest tools and hardware monitors. • Support Tools give you multiple protection against hardware failures.
Mounting the Support Plus CD 1. On the system, open a terminal window and log in as root. 2. Insert the Support Plus CD into the drive. 3. If necessary, define a new directory as the mount point for the CD drive. To define /cdrom as the mount point: 4. mkdir /cdrom If necessary, identify the drive device file: 5. ioscan -fnC disk This command lists all recognized CD drives and their associated device files. The filename will be something similar to /dev/dsk/c1t2d0.
Downloading Patches and Getting Help To download individual patches or bundles not included in this release or media, or to get technical support and other patch management services, go to the HP IT Resource Center (ITRC) web site: http://itrc.hp.com Use the ITRC to do the following: • Find and download individual patches quickly and accurately. • View and download current and past Support Plus bundles. • Access customized support tools quickly. • Make informed decisions with proactive information.
Known Problems This section contains critical, last-minute information about patches on the Support Plus CD: • “Problems Reading HP-UX 11i v1 DVD Media” on page 18 For more detail on patches and diagnostics, see the readme file for the product.
Problems Reading HP-UX 11i v1 DVD Media The HP-UX 11i v1 DVD media contain large volumes of data that may cause your DVD device to fail while reading the DVD media contents. This particularly affects you if you use Update-UX or other Software Distributor (SD) tools. For example, you may encounter similar error messages if you attempt to read DVD media with a large volume of data from Update-UX: ERROR: File "/dvd/catalog/SOE/SOE.2/INFO": No such file or directory(2).
Patching Your System to Read DVD Media To patch your system use the following patches for your current OS version. For Systems Currently Running HP-UX 11i v1: • PHKL_26269 s700_800 11.11 Rock Ridge extension for ISO-9660 • PHKL_28025 s700_800 11.11 Rock Ridge extension for ISO-9660 • PHCO_25841 s700_800 11.11 Add Rock Ridge extension to mount_cdfs (1M) For Systems Currently Running HP-UX 11.0: • PHCO_26450 s700_800 11.00 Rock Ridge extension for ISO-9660 • PHKL_28060 s700_800 11.
For Systems Currently Running HP-UX 10.20: There are no patches available. Use the pfs_mount (1M) command to mount the DVD and update to HP-UX 11i v1. See “Using pfs_mount to Mount a DVD” on page 21. To determine if your system already has the listed patches installed, run the following: /usr/sbin/swlist -l patch | grep where is one of the patches listed above for your operating system version.
Using pfs_mount to Mount a DVD For HP-UX 10.20, this is the only supported method for reading DVD media with large volumes of data. To use the pfs_mount command: 1. Start the pfs daemons: 2.
