Welcome to HP-UX 11i v1 HP-UX 11i v1 delivers new hardware enablement, additional software functionality, and popular HP-UX applications bundled into Operating Environments (OEs). HP-UX 11i v1 is the recommended next-level enterprise release for all HP-UX systems currently running HP-UX 10.x or HP-UX 11.0.
Media Kit Contents For new systems, the HP-UX 11i v1 media kit includes the following CDs, DVDs, and documents. For the update service, you will receive those components that change from one release to the next. • HP-UX 11i v1 (B.11.11) CD or DVD — Contains the HPUX Operating System (OS), Operating Environments (OEs), required networking software, Update-UX, Ignite-UX, and online diagnostics.
• Software Pack CD — Contains optional HP-UX 11i v1 core enhancements. See the Read Before Installing Software Pack for details. • BEA WebLogic Server 7.0™ for HP-UX 11i v1 CD (Japanese Server OEs only)— Contains a six-month trial version of the leading J2EE® web application server for HPUX 11i v1, Easy Start documentation, sample source code, and links to extensive documentation and support resources from BEA Systems, Inc.

What’s New in HP-UX 11i v1 This section provides a quick overview of what is new, has changed, and has been deprecated or obsoleted in the HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005 release. For detailed product information, see the HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005 Release Notes on the Instant Information CD and the HP Technical Documentation Web site: http://docs.hp.com Note HP Servicecontrol Manager has been removed from the HP-UX 11i v1 Operating Environments (OEs) as of the September 2005 update release.
• Graphics and Technical Computing Software: Now supports 3D accelerated rendering on ATI FireGL X3 graphics card. • Hardware Enablement (HWE): Enables support for new I/O peripherals, graphics and I/O cards, as well as updated I/O and mass storage drivers. • HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE): Updated to version A.03.95 with HP Runner, an availability monitoring tool that utilizes the ISEE framework to return availability data to HP for reporting and service, depending on contract level.

In this version, /etc/password and /etc/group are NOT modified to import NIS-served data. • HP Instant Capacity (iCAP) (formerly Instant Capacity on Demand, or iCOD): Updated to version B.11.11.07.01. E-mail connectivity no longer required. Temporary Capacity (TiCAP) also updated with new features.
• HP Process Resource Manager (PRM) version C.03.00: Includes integration with HP Systems Insight Manager, as well as support for 256 PRM groups and other changes. • HP-UX Processor Sets: Available on Software Pack, the updated PROCSETS bundle delivers the optional Processor Sets product with the latest patches and repackages the product by including the latest relevant patches so that all patch dependencies are managed automatically.
• Partition Manager v2.0: Updated to version B.11.11.02.00.05. xx. Now runs as an application under HP System Management Homepage. Includes defect fixes. • PRM Libraries: Contains only the HP Process Resource Manager (PRM) kernel fileset, PRM-Sw-Krn, which is now at version C.01.03. • New Product to HP-UX 11i v1 OEs: vPar Provider: Extracts information about virtual partitions on a system. Now delivered with HP-UX 11i v1.
• HP WBEM Services for HP-UX: Updated to version A.02.00.07 with numerous defect fixes, as well as support for CIM Process Indications as defined by the DMTF WBEM Specification. • Ignite-UX: Updated to version C.6.3.x with support for VERITAS 4.1 products (on HP-UX 11i v2), as well as new hardware enabled by the release. • Online Diagnostics (OnlineDiag): Provides new option for the map command. The LIFLOAD package will no longer be delivered as part of the OnlineDiag bundle.

• HP-UX Webmin-based Admin: Upgraded to 1.070.04 as primarily a security and bug fix release. • New to HP-UX 11i v1 OEs: LDAP-UX Client Services version B.04.00 added to the OEs. Provides LDAP-UX integration product, a major release enhanced to facilitate migration from NIS or NIS+ environment to an LDAP environment. In addition to NIS+ migration support, several enhancements also added. • Mozilla: Updated to version 1.7.8.00 with improved Asian font support.
• HP-UX Secure Shell: Updated to version A.04.00.000 with many new features, including sshd re-exec for each new connection, permission and ownership checks for program configuration files, and sftp (1) interface improvements, among others. • HP-UX Shadow Passwords: Available on Software Pack. Provides fixes for two defects. • OpenSSL: Updated to version A.00.09.07e.012 with automatic generation of a self-signed host certificate and private key. • EnhancedCore: Now available on Software Pack.
• HP 3D Technology for the Java Platform: No changes for September 2005. Deprecated and is planned for future obsolescence. • Software Development Kit (SDK) and Run Time Environment (RTE) for HP-UX for the Java Platform. SDK versions 1.3. and 1.4 have been updated to incorporate defect fixes. JDK 5.0 for HP-UX added, which includes Java Webstart and the Java Runtime Plug-in (JPI). SDK/RTE version 1.3 deprecated and planned for future obsolescence.
HP-UX 11i v1 Operating Environments Operating Environments (OEs) are tested and integrated application bundles designed to work with the operating system and provide the functionality needed for your system’s purpose. The following list details the available HP-UX 11i v1 OEs: • HP-UX 11i v1 Foundation OE (FOE)— No-charge Internet server environment including applications such as Apache Web Server, and Java.
Known Problems and Workarounds This section contains critical, late-breaking information that was not included in Appendix B, “Known Problems and Troubleshooting” in the HP-UX 11i v1 Installation and Update Guide. Before installing or updating to HP-UX 11i v1, make sure you read this entire section as well as Appendix B in the HP-UX 11i v1 Installation and Update Guide. Updating from this Release If you attempt to update from this release (HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005) to an earlier HP-UX 11i v2 release, the update process will stop and you will get the following message: ERROR: You are attempting to update from your release of HP-UX to a version of HP-UX that was released earlier in time. This is not supported. The update process has stopped without making any changes to your system.
DMI May Core Dump During Update If the Desktop Management Interface (DMI) for HP-UX is running during an update, the DMI processes that are running may core dump. What To Do If you have DMI installed on your system, you must stop DMI (B6816AA) before running update-ux. Use the following command to stop the DMI processes running on your system: /sbin/init.
Problem Updating HP-UX 10.20 System Using CDs If you are using CDs to update an HP-UX 10.20 system to the HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005 (B.11.11) Operating Environments (OEs), the update-ux command will fail because HP-UX 10.20 does not support Rockridge extension. What To Do To resolve this problem, do one of the following: • If you have a DVD drive (internal or external) you can update to the latest HP-UX 11i v1 OEs using the pfs_mount (1M) command to mount the HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005 OEs DVD.
HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition Install Errors The following issues may present themselves during your HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE) installation: • You may encounter a KILLMON ERROR message in the ISEE control scripts. You can safely ignore this error message. • The Cpumap post install script aborts on update. If you encounter this post install script error, manually perform the symlink using the following command: ln -s • /sbin/init.d/cpumap2/sbin/rc2.
