Welcome to HP-UX 11i v1 HP-UX 11i v1 delivers new hardware enablement, additional software functionality, and popular HP-UX applications bundled into Operating Environments (OEs). HP-UX 11i v1 is the recommended next-level enterprise release for all HP-UX systems currently running HP-UX 10.x or HP-UX 11.0.
Media Kit Contents For new systems, the HP-UX 11i v1 media kit includes the following CDs, DVDs, and documents. For the update service, you will receive those components that change from one release to the next. • HP-UX 11i v1 (B.11.11) 5 CDs or 1 DVD — Contains the HP-UX Operating System (OS), Operating Environments (OEs), required networking software, Update-UX, Ignite-UX, and Online Diagnostics.
• Software Pack CD — Contains optional HP-UX 11i v1 core enhancements. See the Read Before Installing Software Pack for details. • HP Serviceguard Distributed Components CD (MCOE only) — Contains software components used to monitor and manage high availability clusters configured with Serviceguard.

New Products in HP-UX 11i v1 Table 1 lists the new products included in the HP-UX 11i v1 December 2006 release. Table 1: New Products in HP-UX 11i v1 New Product Description HP-UX WBEM Fibre Channel Provider Is a HP-UX WBEM provider that enables client applications to get information about HP-UX Fibre Channel host-bus adapters (HBAs) available on the system. HP-UX WBEM IOTree Provider Is a HP-UX WBEM provider that enables client applications to get information about PCI subsystem in the HP-UX server.
Table 1: New Products in HP-UX 11i v1 New Product Description HP-UX Peripheral Device Tool Delivers a Web-enabled GUI that steps system administrators through the entire process of card addition/replacement. It operates in a singlesystem environment. Firefox/Firefox Source Web browser includes Firefox 1.5.x changes from the Mozilla Foundation. Fixes several security vulnerabilities reported in Firefox 1.5.0.0 from the Mozilla Foundation. GTK/GTK Source Added to support FireFox/Thunderbird.
Table 1: New Products in HP-UX 11i v1 New Product Description PAM-Requisite Allows the requisite flag to be specified in the /etc/pam.conf file, which causes PAM to return immediately if a service module returns a failure. Available on Software Pack. Obsolescence for Java 1.3 Added to HP-UX 11i v1 in this release to remove, upon update, the obsoleted Java 1.3, which has reached its end-of-life.

HP OpenView GlancePlus Pak Updated to version C.04.50. Dependency of ttd to have rpcbind or portmap running has been eliminated; OVPA supports both HTTP and HTTPS-based single port communication; includes new metrics; and other changes.
Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v1 Updated Product Description HP-UX Workload Manager Now allows you to map Unix groups to workload groups and use extended regular expressions in alternate names for application records. Also includes enhancements to wlminfo output and the new keyword utility_reserve_threshold. You can use utility_reserve_threshold to configure the minimum number of days of Temporary Instant Capacity that must be available for WLM to use.

HP Systems Insight Manager Updated with remote support for HP BladeSystem C-Class blade and enclosure, delivery of the HP BladeSystem Integrated Manager 2.1, and defect fixes. Bundle name changed from T2414AA to HPSIM-HP-UX. Ignite-UX Updated to version C.6.10.
Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v1 Updated Product Description Update-UX The update-ux command includes defect fixes. Enhanced AutoFS Updated to version B.11.11.0509.1 with support for LDAP as a source of automount maps. Available on Software Pack. HP CIFS Client Updated to version A.02.02.01 with support for MS Distributed File System (DFS) and new configuration parameters; improved performance on read and write requests, and other features.
Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v1 Updated Product Description HP-UX Secure Shell Updated to version A.04.30.006 with an sftp-only solution in a chroot environment and usage of Tcp Wrappers support IPv6, as well as features and changes from previous updates. PAM Kerberos Updated to version 1.24. Enhanced pamkrbval tool and delivers the 64 bit /usr/lib/security/pa20_64/libpam_k rb5.1 library. Java JDK/JRE for HP-UX Java updated to versions 1.4.2.11 and 1.5.0.04 to incorporate defect fixes.
HP-UX 11i v1 Operating Environments Operating Environments (OEs) are tested and integrated application bundles designed to work with the operating system and provide the functionality needed for your system’s purpose. The following list details the available HP-UX 11i v1 OEs: • HP-UX 11i v1 Foundation OE (FOE) — No-charge Internet server environment including applications such as Apache Web Server, and Java.
Known Problems This section contains critical, late-breaking information that was not included in Appendix B, “Known Problems and Troubleshooting” in the HP-UX 11i v1 Installation and Update Guide. Before installing or updating to HP-UX 11i v1, make sure you read this entire section as well as Appendix B in the HP-UX 11i v1 Installation and Update Guide. HP-UX 11i v2 Control Files Included in HP-UX 11i v1 December 2006 Release Some HP-UX 11i v2 control files were inadvertently included in the December 2006 release of HP-UX 11i v1. Because of this, the following error messages can occur if customers use swinstall (1M) to update to HP-UX 11i v1 for December 2006 on systems running the Minimal Technical Operating Environment (MTOE) or the Technical Computing Operating Environment (TCOE).
• Users trying to update to HP-UX 11i v1 December 2006 MTOE from an earlier TCOE, Operating Environment (OE), Enterprise OE (OE-Ent), or a Mission Critical OE (OE-MC) may see the following error message: ERROR: The Minimal Technical OE is not supported on 11.23 PA systems What To Do Use the HP-UX update-ux (1M) utility instead of swinstall (1M) to update to HP-UX 11i v1 for December 2006 from an earlier version of HP-UX 11i v1.
Large Systems (32-way/64-way) Require Higher Kernel Settings The HP-UX 11i v1 Installation and Update Guide for December 2006 describes incorrect kernel settings for the "Post Installation Task" for large systems on page 83. What To Do After a cold-install, the new kernel may need to be re-configured before booting. Rebuild the kernel by following the steps described below: 1. 2.

Update and reboot your system to ensure that your new kernel successfully boots: kmupdate reboot -r Alternatively, you may re-configure the kernel using one of the following methods: • Use SAM to select an appropriate bundle of kernel parameters from the kernel configuration Actions menu. • Increase maxusers to a large value, such as 200. • Determine the correct configuration for your system.
EMS Hardware Monitoring Shutdown Errors You may see the following error messages upon shutdown of the EMS Hardware Monitors: KILLMON monitor KILLMON monitor ERROR: could not find a dictionary file containing the name '/connectivity/events/multiplexors/FC_SCSI_mux'. ERROR: could not find a dictionary file containing the name '/system/events/orca_win' What To Do 1. Stop the emslistener using the following command: /sbin/init.d/rstemsListener stop 2.

Unable to Unload Driver Error During Update When updating your system to the HP-UX 11i v1 December 2006 release, you may encounter the following message in the syslog/dmesg file: insf: Unable to unload the driver: pfil What To Do You can safely ignore this message.
Error When Installing or Removing Volume Manager 3.5 Patch PHCO_30730 If you attempt to remove the Volume Manager 3.5 Patch PHCO_30730 from your HP-UX 11i v1 system, the following warning message is displayed: WARNING: Cannot delete the definition for "/opt/VRTSob/bin/vxsvcctrl.sh" from the fileset "VRTSob.VEAS-FILESET". The file does not exist in this fileset. ERROR: The selected software was not modified. All of the specified file modifications are invalid. See the ERROR and/or WARNING messages.
Install PHCO_35410 after Installing the New Npartition Product During recent tests, HP found a minor problem with the older Npartition product delivered on the HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005 OE media. PHCO_35410, a new nPars cmds cumulative patch, exposed a problem with the older Npartition product (Version A.01.02) that prevents the installation of this version of Npartition (Version A.01.03) with PHCO_35410.
HPSIM Configure or Repair Agents Task Does Not Work The HP Systems Insight Manager’s (HPSIM) Trust Relationship Set to trust by certificate checkbox in the Configure or Repair Agents task does not work in the HP-UX 11i v1 December 2006 release. This task establishes single sign-on capability with the System Management Homepage, so that you are not prompted to login to System Management Homepage when launched from HPSIM.
