HP-UX 11i OS Software HP-UX 11i Support Tools Bundle Name OnlineDiag Default Network Drivers: 1 Contents/comments See Diagnostics User Guide on the Support Plus CD Other network drivers are selectable during installation. See the HP-UX 11i December 2003 Release Notes available on the Web: http://docs.hp.
3 The BUNDLE11i patch installs required OS patches Note Installing or removing individual products in an OE may lead to dependency issues. For more help on this, see: http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/os/11i/filesets.
HP-UX 11i Operating Environments (OEs) HP-UX 11i is delivered with bundles of key applications to help you install a complete operating system in a single-pass process.
HP Technical Workstations: • HP-UX 11i Minimal Technical OE (MTOE) — This OE includes NDS, Perl, VxVM, and Judy applications, plus the OpenGL Graphics Developer’s Kit. • HP-UX 11i Technical Computing OE (TCOE) — This OE includes most applications in the HP-UX11i FOE plus extensive graphics applications. This OE is also supported on technical servers.
Reasons to Install an HP-UX 11i OE • You can easily install or upgrade to the latest versions of popular applications in each OE via a single software bundle installed with a single reboot (a second reboot is needed if system firmware needs upgrading); in other words, no need to install or update those applications separately. • All applications included in each OE have been thoroughly install-tested on supported systems, ensuring a successful installation on your system.
HP-UX 11i OE Contents Applications included in each HP-UX 11i OE (in addition to the 11i OS software listed in “HP-UX Operating System” on page 13) are listed on the following pages. Other applications that are selectable during installation are also listed. However, to ensure compatibility with other applications, we recommend that you do not de-select applications or patches that are selected by default when installing an OE bundle.
HP-UX 11i v1 Software and Driver Bundle Type Definitions The HP-UX 11i v1 media contains all of the software and network driver bundles for your system to run the latest version of HP-UX 11i v1. Additional software and network driver bundles are included, which you may choose to either select or de-select prior to install or update. HP-UX 11i v1 contains three types of bundles: • • Always-Installed: Software and network driver bundles required by HP-UX 11i v1.
• Selectable: Software bundles that are not installed or updated by default. You must manually select these bundles before you install or update your system. Examples include the Ignite-UX and non-core network drivers.

Known Problems and Workarounds This section contains critical, late-breaking information that was not included in Appendix B, “Known Problems and Troubleshooting” in the HP-UX 11i Version 1 Installation and Update Guide. Before installing or updating to 11i v1, be sure to read this entire section as well as Appendix B in the HP-UX 11i Version 1 Installation and Update Guide. For information and patches on other known problems, go to the HP IT Resource Center web site: http://itrc.hp.
Note Be sure to verify that your system has the minimum required firmware version. See the "Firmware Upgrades" section in the HPUX 11i Version 1 Installation and Update Guide for December 2003 for details and the PDC Firmware and Boot Support Matrix paper at the following web site: http://software.hp.com/SUPPORT_PLUS/info.html Select the link under "System Firmware Information.
System Hangs While Shutting Down Due to a problem with the VERITAS Enterprise Administrator Service (VEA) your system may hang and fail to completely shut down. How Do You Know If This Affects You? If you are running VxVM and use the VERITAS Enterprise Administrator product you may encounter this problem while shutting down your system. During a shutdown, the console terminal may look similar to the following: ... Stopping name server daemon ................................ N/A Unconfigure LAN interfaces...
What To Do Install the following VEA patches to resolve the problem: • PHCO_28651 • PHCO_28656 Note There is a defect associated with these patches that emits a misleading message in your rc.log indicating a problem with the /sbin/rc2.d/S999isisd start up script. You can safely ignore the message. These patches can be obtained from the IT Resource Center using one of the following resources on the web: From the IT Resource Center website (requires a login): http://itrc.hp.
Problems Reading HP-UX 11i v1 DVD Media The HP-UX 11i v1 DVD media contain large volumes of data that may cause your DVD device to fail while reading the DVD media contents. This particularly affects you if you use Update-UX or other Software Distributor (SD) tools. For example, you may encounter similar error messages if you attempt to read DVD media with a large volume of data from Update-UX: ERROR: File "/dvd/catalog/SOE/SOE.2/INFO": No such file or directory(2).
Patching Your System to Read DVD Media To patch your system use the following patches (patch descriptions are in parenthesis) for your current OS version: For Systems Currently Running HP-UX 11i v1: • PHKL_26269 (11.11 Rock Ridge extension for ISO-9660) • PHKL_28025 (11.11 Rock Ridge extension for ISO-9660) • PHCO_25841 (11.11 Add Rock Ridge extension to mount_cdfs (1M)) For Systems Currently Running HP-UX 11.0: • PHCO_26450 (11.00 Y2k; Rock Ridge extension for ISO-9660) • PHKL_28060 (11.
To determine if your system already has the listed patches installed, run the following: /usr/sbin/swlist -l patch | grep where is one of the patches listed above for your operating system version. If nothing is printed to standard output, you need to install the patches from one of the following sources: • the GOLDBase11i bundle on the Support Plus CD (June 2003 or later) for HP-UX 11i v1 • the QPK1100 bundle on the Support Plus CD (September 2003 or later) for HP-UX 11.
On HP-UX 11.0 and HP-UX 11i v1 systems, you can alternately install patches to read DVD media correctly (see “Patching Your System to Read DVD Media” on page 117). If you have already installed the patches, you do not need to use the pfs_mount command to mount the DVD media. To use the pfs_mount command: 1. Start the pfs daemons: /usr/sbin/pfs_mountd & /usr/sbin/pfsd & 2.
