Welcome to HP-UX Virtual Partitions! This booklet provides a brief overview of the product HP-UX Virtual Partitions (vPars), outlines the contents of the HP-UX Virtual Partitions media box, describes the steps to access the CD, and discusses information you should read before installing vPars. What is vPars? The vPars (Virtual Partitions) product allows you to run multiple instances of HP-UX simultaneously on one server or nPartition by dividing a server or nPartition into virtual partitions. Each virtual partition is assigned its own subset of hardware, runs a separate instance of HP-UX, and hosts its own set of applications. vPars provides application and OS (operating system) fault isolation.
Media Box Contents The HP-UX Virtual Partitions media box includes the following: • Read Before Installing HP-UX Virtual Partitions (this CD booklet) — Use this to get a brief description of HP-UX Virtual Partitions, the contents of this media box, and basic steps on how to access the CD. • HP-UX Virtual Partitions CD— Contains the latest HPUX Virtual Partitions product T1335AC and the Virtual Partition Manager GUI (vparmgr).
Mounting the CD 1. Login in as root. 2. Mount the CD to the desired directory. The following example uses the /cdrom directory: # mount -r /dev/dsk/c1t2d0 /cdrom You can find your specific cdrom device file by using the command ioscan -fnkC disk.
Installation Instructions The supported methods of installing vPars are: • • Software Distributor (SD) Ignite-UX For installation instructions, see Chapter 4 of the manual Installing and Managing HP-UX Virtual Partitions, available from the web at http://docs.hp.com/hpux/11i/index.
Configuration and Licensing Information Please read the document HP-UX Virtual Partitions Ordering and Configuration Guide. This document contains information on the required licensing for the vPars product as well as licensing for other products, such as HP-UX 11i Operating Environments (OEs), on a computer using virtual partitions.
