Managing Superdome Complexes: A Guide for HP-UX System Administrators
Chapter 3 57
3 Managing the Overall Complex
Collectively, all of the hardware components within a Superdome system
are referred to as a complex. Each Superdome complex is comprised of
the following building blocks: cabinets (including power, cooling, and
utility hardware), cells, and I/O chassis.
You can configure each Superdome complex into one or more partitions:
independent virtual systems each capable of running an instance of
HP-UX. See Chapter 4, “Configuring and Managing Superdome
Partitions,” on page 113 for procedures on managing the partitions
within your Superdome complex (such as how to assign cells, and their
connected I/O chassis, to partitions).
The hardware components that are used by the overall complex (for
example, power supplies, utility hardware, and blowers) are not assigned
to specific partitions.
This chapter covers the tasks you perform to manage the components
that are common to all partitions in your Superdome complex.
NOTE Each Superdome complex has only one active Guardian Service
Processor (GSP). The GSP is a key Superdome administration tool and is
described in Chapter 2, “Superdome Console and Service Interface,” on
page 33.
