Shutting Down HP-UX on a Partition
When HP-UX is running on a partition, you can shut down HP-UX using
either the shutdown command or the reset command.
On Superdome servers you have the following four options when
shutting down HP-UX:
• Shut down HP-UX and halt the partition.
• Shut down HP-UX and reboot the partition.
• Perform a reboot-for-reconfig of the partition.
• Reboot the partition and keep it at a ready-for-reconfig state.
These options are discussed in the procedure that follows. For details see
the shutdown (1M) or reboot (1M) manpages.
HP-UX Use the following procedure when shutting down HP-UX on a partition.
Step 1. Log in to HP-UX running on the partition.
You can log in to HP-UX on the partition either by directly connecting
with telnet or rlogin, or by logging in to its complex’s GSP and
accessing the partition’s console. Connecting through the GSP allows you
to maintain partition console access after HP-UX has shut down.
Step 2. Issue the shutdown or reboot command with the appropriate
command-line options.
NOTE The reboot command does not invoke the shutdown scripts associated
with subsystems. The shutdown command invokes the scripts and
terminates all running processes in an orderly and cautious manner.
The command-line options you specify dictate the wayin which HP-UX is
shut down, whether the partition is rebooted, and whether any partition
configuration changes (adding or removing cells) take place.
You can perform this task using HP-UX commands.
