HP-UX Compressed Dump Release Notes What’s in This Version Total pages on system: Total pages included in dump: Dump compressed: DEVICE -----------31:0x03a000 4194304 328120 ON OFFSET(kB) ---------310112 SIZE (kB) ---------4194304 ---------4194304 LOGICAL VOL. -----------64:0x000002 NAME ----------------/dev/vg00/lvol2 Turning compression option ON using crashconf, gives a hint to the system to use compression while dumping.
HP-UX Compressed Dump Release Notes What’s in This Version The compression option is turned ON by default. The init script option for crashconf sets the compression option every time the system boots up. Setting CRASHCONF_COMPRESS to 1 in /etc/rc.config.d/crashconf turns compressed dump ON whenever the system boots up. Setting it to 0 turns compressed dump OFF. Not setting it, will not change the default compression hint in the kernel, which is to dump compressed.
HP-UX Compressed Dump Release Notes What’s in This Version The Compressed Dump product uses a new crash dump format, PARDIR, for saving the dumps. Existing versions of kernel dump debug tools do not support PARDIR format dumps. To use with existing dump debug tools, the dump needs to be converted to any of the older crash dump formats. The following command converts crash.0 which is in PARDIR format into CRASHDIR format in crash.1. The converted dump will take up considerably more disk space.
