Installing Patches and Applications
Chapter 5 79
5 Installing Patches and
Applications
This chapter describes how to install HP-related patches and non-OS HP
applications:
Before You Begin: You should have already completed Chapter 4,
Verifying System Installation, on page 71.
•“Keeping Up to Date with the Latest Critical Patches on page 80:
You should check on a regular basis to see if HP has released any
new, critical patches.
•“Installing OS Patches Required by Individual Applications on
page 82: Helps you to determine and install new application patches,
if necessary.
•“Tips for Installing or Updating HP Applications on page 85:
Outlines how you to update HP, non-OS applications on your system.
•“How to Backup the System on page 89: Reminds you to create a
final backup of the new HP-UX 11i v1.6 system.
•“The Next Step on page 90: Directs you to the final Chapter 6,
Configuring and Maintaining HP-UX 11i v1.6, on page 91.
To complete the steps in this chapter, we estimate you require 1-2 hours
per patch and 1-2 hours per application. Time per patch is reduced if you
download and install multiple patches in a single session. Please note
your time may vary.
TIP This chapter provides installation information for HP-related patches
and applications only. To install or upgrade other vendor patches and
applications, please refer to the appropriate vendor documentation.
