3 Installing HP-UX 11i Version 1.6
This chapter describes installing HP-UX 11i Version 1.6:
• Before You Begin: You should have already completed the pre-cold
install tasks in Chapter 2, “Preparing for Cold Install,” on page 31.
•“Reviewing the cold-install process” on page 60: Helps you become
familiar with the options to cold-install.
•“How to Install HP-UX 11i Version 1.6” on page 62: Provides the
step-by-step instructions.
•“Retrieving Information After Cold-installing” on page 68: Explains
how to retrieve the information you previously saved onto another
system or tape.
•“The Next Step” on page 70: Directs you to Chapter 4, “Verifying
System Installation,” on page 71.
To complete the steps in this chapter, we estimate you require 2-3 hours,
depending upon the system, and if you are installing the OS or an OE.
Please note that your time may vary.
CAUTION The cold-install process overwrites everything on the root (/) disk. Make
sure you completed backups in “Backing Up Your System” on page 52.
