Where to Get More Fast Ethernet Information
For customers with support contracts, further help with solving common Fast Ethernet
networking problems is available at the HP IT Resource Center at
http://www.itrc.hp.com/. Once you have logged in, click on “Search” and then search
the Technical Documents for the following terms (in boldface):
• software locator — to determine where to find the latest HP-UX -based network or
I/O card software.
• driver locator — to determine which driver to use with a network or I/O card.
• speed duplex autonegotiation — to set correct speed, duplex, and
autonegotiation on LAN cards and switches. The latest document is called “Speed
and autonegotiation on network card and switch must match.”
• 100BaseT FAQs — to get answers to frequently asked questions involving LAN
card configuration, drivers, and patches.
Combining Pre-HP-UX 11i Configuration Files
In HP-UX 11i, the drivers for PCI and HSC-based Fast Ethernet networking are
consolidated into one driver called btlan, which is pre-installed as part of the kernel.
The configuration files used by these networking drivers in HP-UX 10.20 and

a. The HWEnable11i bundle, which is normally installed by default on the 11i OE
media, provides the patches that are required for the installation of these I/O
bundles. When updating an existing 11i system, one can install the
HWEnable11i bundle and the desired I/O bundle from the OE media in the
same install session to meet software dependencies.
b. For selectable network drivers, see “Selectable Network Drivers” on page 153.
For the most current updates, go to
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/netcom/index.html.
c. Although HP has decided not to release the A6974A adapter card, the
IETHER-00 driver software will remain in 11i to support future cards.
