OE UPDATE
HP-UX 11i Test Procedures
Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to communicate the testing methodology used to validate installation
and removal of Operating Environments (OEs) for HP-UX 11i (November 2000 release). To that
end, this paper includes the following information:
• Hardware configurations of each system under test (SUT), including whether the
particular system was configured for 32- or 64-bit operation
• Software starting points for each test case
• Documentation of anomalies detected during installation and removal tests,
including:
o Examples of messages
o Causes of the anomalous messages
o Impacts of the anomalies on the system operation
Each test suite covered both cold installation and updating of the operating system. Please send
any comments on this paper to: mailto:gcsupport@cup.hp.com.
Update Testing
Purpose
The update testing was designed to confirm that previous versions (10.20 & 11.0) of the HP-UX
operating system could be successfully updated to HP-UX version 11i (September 2001 release).
The criteria used to define “Successful Update” are as follows:
• No make kernel failure occurred.
• No major problems resulted in update failure.
• No previous application versions were required to be removed prior to updating.
• No errors or warnings were contained in the swagent.log file after the update.
• No errors or warnings were contained in the swagent.log after performing swverify.
Test Assumptions
• All applications can be installed from either media or a combined depot.
• The update requires no manual steps.
• All products can handle a reboot situation.
• During the update, all products will completely remove all 10.20 or 11.0 versions.
• Network drivers will be installed whether the card is present or not.
• Except for HP-PB ATM, all network drivers will be usable after the update.
• The update-ux command will be used to perform the update.
• The update requires only one reboot.
