HP-UX 11i Technical Computing Operating
Environment (TCOE)
new at 11i original
release
Like the Minimal Technical Operating Environment, the Technical Computing
Operating Environment (TCOE) contains all the base functionality that is common to
the other four OEs, including the base 32/64-bit HP-UX Operating System, network
drivers, and other always-installed functionality. While it is not a superset of the
Foundation 11i OE, it is a superset of the Minimal Technical OE. Unlike the Minimal
Technical OE, however, the Technical Computing OE is available on both technical
servers and workstations.
In addition to the features found in the HP-UX 11i Minimal Technical OE, the HP-UX
11i Technical Computing Operating Environment includes these always-installed or
default-installed applications:
• CIFS/9000 Client and CIFS/9000 Server (see page 103)
• High Performance Math Libraries (HP MLIB) (see page 141)
• HP 3D Technology for the Java 2 Platform (see page 143)
• HP Message-Passing Interface (MPI) (see page 144)
• HP Visualize Conference (see page 146)
• HP-UX Runtime Environment for the Java 2 Platform (see page 106)
• HP-UX Web Server Suite (see page 108)
• Pluggable Authentication Module (PAM) Kerberos (see page 116)
• Plug-In for the Java 2 Platform for Netscape/Mozilla (see page 117)
For the available selectable products for this OE, see Table 6-1 on page 95.

December 2001
FirstSpace FRML Viewer has been deprecated (slated for future obsolescence) and will
be removed from the operating environment in a future release.
High Performance Math Libraries (HP MLIB)
The High Performance Math Libraries (HP MLIB) product contains the Linear Algebra
Package (LAPACK) and the Vector Library (VECLIB) subprograms, and with the
September 2002 release, ScaLAPACK and the Distributed SuperLU library. HP MLIB
provides mathematical software and computational kernels for engineering and
scientific applications involving linear equations, least squares, eigenvalue problems,
and the singular value decomposition.
