HP Superdome Servers: New Attention Indicator Behavior (new for June 2001)
Chapter 248
Impact
This change affects all current HP hard-partitionable servers
(Superdomes), and will be implemented on future hard-partitionable
systems.
The changed behavior for HP Superdome cell and I/O chassis attention
indicators differs from the original HP-UX 11i release, which would light
these attention indicators to a steady-on state.
Likewise, as of HP-UX 11i June 2001, SAM and Partition Manager now
blink PCI slot attention indicators during tasks involving PCI cards or
card slots, rather that lighting them to a steady-on state (as at the
original HP-UX 11i release).
As a result, sites that have HP Superdome servers running both the
original HP-UX 11i release and HP-UX 11i June 2001 release can have
attention indicators at different states (steady-on and blinking).
On HP Superdome servers upgrading to HP-UX 11i June 2001, cell and
chassis attention indicators will exhibit the new, blinking behavior when
the indicators are enabled by fruled or Partition Manager.
NOTE This change does not affect the behavior of the HP Superdome cabinet
“attention” light, which is not user-controllable.
This also does not affect HP Superdome cabinet number LCD behavior.
Documentation
Details about the new fruled and Partition Manager effects on cell and
I/O chassis attention indicators are provided in the fruled (1) manpage
and the Partition Manager online help.
The rad command, whose functionality has not changed, is documented
in the rad (1M) manpage.
