Graphics and Technical Computing Software
HP’s Graphics and Technical Computing bundle includes OpenGL, Starbase, and
HP-PHIGS 3D APIs. HP’s workstation graphics software support includes the run-time
and programming environment packages for the 3D graphics APIs named above, plus
additional software for technical computing environments. However, some functionality
(notably accelerated 3D graphics) requires special hardware.
NOTE As of the September 2002 11i release, HP 3D Graphics are no longer supported on
PA-RISC systems older than 2.0. The 3D graphics code is now optimized for PA 2.0
(64-bit capable) processors and will not execute on older PA-RISC microprocessors. If you
have an older PA-RISC workstation and need local 3D graphics support, HP
recommends that you not update to the September 2002 release (or later) of the
Technical Computing (TCOE) or Minimal Computing (MCOE) Operating Environments.
The previous releases of HP-UX 11i contain 3D graphics code that will execute on any
PA-RISC microprocessor. You can determine the PA version with the System
Administration Manager (SAM) by selecting Performance Monitors and then System
Properties. The PA version appears on the line labeled CPU Version.
Summary of Change
The Graphics and Technical Computing bundle, as of the December 2006 release,
supports OpenGL 1.3 and GLX 1.3 on the ATI FireGL X1, T2, and X3 graphics cards.
Impact
You can now use OpenGL 1.3 and GLX 1.3 features on the ATI FireGL X1, T2, and X3
graphics cards.
Compatibility
OpenGL 1.3 and GLX 1.3 are compatible with previous OpenGL and GLX releases on
HP-UX.
Performance
OpenGL 1.3 and GLX 1.3 performance is comparable to previous OpenGL and GLX
releases on HP-UX.
