MC/ServiceGuard
Multi-Computer/ServiceGuard (MC/ServiceGuard) is a specialized facility for protecting
mission critical applications from a wide variety of hardware and software failures.
MC/ServiceGuard is used to create high-availability clusters of HP servers. Computer
systems with high-availability clusters allow applications to continue in spite of a
hardware or software failure. Such systems protect users from software failures as well
as from failure of a system processing unit (SPU) or local area network (LAN)
component. In the event that one component fails, the redundant component takes over
and MC/ServiceGuard coordinates the transfer between components.
ServiceGuard Manager, the graphical user interface (GUI) for ServiceGuard, is available
from http://software.hp.com or from the ServiceGuard Distributed Components CD.
ServiceGuard Manager installs on HP-UX, Linux, and Windows.
The Distributed Components CD also includes Quorum Server, which is supported as a
type of cluster lock mechanism different from the lock disk.
