Temporary Instant Capacity for Unlicensed Processors
Using Temporary Instant Capacity
Chapter 578
Step 4. Optional: if you wish to view temporary capacity balances on the portal,
configure your partition for e-mail connectivity to HP. See ā€œConfiguring
E-Mail on Instant Capacity Systemsā€ on page 143 for details.
Utilizing Temporary Instant Capacity
Auditing of temporary capacity is done at the complex level on Instant
Capacity systems that support partitioning. While temporary capacity
may have been purchased for use by a specific partition, it is available for
use on all partitions in the system.
To use temporary capacity in a system that contains Instant Capacity
processors, and has had the temporary capacity RTU codeword applied,
follow this procedure:
To activate one or more processors in an nPartition, and allow them to
use temporary capacity, use the icod_modify -t -a
<number>
command/options.
In the following activation example, two processors are currently active
in the partition. You desire to activate a third processor, but there is no
licensed processor available for activation. Because temporary capacity
is available on the system, you can activate a third processor with it.
Example 5-2 Activating an Instant Capacity Processor with Temporary
Capacity
/usr/sbin/icod_modify -t -a 1
3 processors are now active, and 3 processors are specified to be active after the next
reboot.
NOTE Temporary capacity cannot be used to activate Instant Capacity
processors in inactive Instant Capacity cell boards. An RTU must be
purchased for the cell board.
When you want to decrease or stop using temporary capacity, you
deactivate the appropriate number of processors. Note: you do not use
the ā€œ-tā€ option when deactivating processors. Temporary capacity will no
longer be used when the number of active processors is equal to the
number of licensed processors.
