Setting up HP Instant Capacity
1. Acquire the iCAP system or the iCAP components by ordering the appropriate iCAP products from
HP and having them installed on-site. The “Acquiring HP Instant Capacity resources” section on
page 12 explains this process in detail.
2. Send a purchase order for the necessary RTUs to HP to start the activation process. (See the
“Immediate activation of HP Instant Capacity components” section on this page for the process to
activate components before submitting a purchase order.)
3. After the order is processed by HP Order Admin, access the Utility Pricing Solutions portal to
obtain a codeword, and enter the codeword into your system. The “Activating HP Instant Capacity
resources” section page 14 provides detail on this process.
No e-mail requirement for HP Instant Capacity
E-mail connectivity to send encrypted usage information to HP is not required for iCAP systems
running version 7.00 or later of the iCAP software. E-mail connectivity is available at the user’s
discretion for providing server-wide asset information, which can then be viewed at the Utility Pricing
Solutions portal
Immediate activation of HP Instant Capacity components
Five processing days per core of Instant Access Capacity (IAC) are included with every iCAP
processor purchased. As soon as iCAP processors are delivered and installed, acquire the codewords
for your free IAC from the Utility Pricing Solutions portal, which allows instantaneous activation of
your iCAP processors before ordering temporary capacity or a permanent RTU. See the “Temporarily
activating and deactivating HP Instant Capacity processors with HP Temporary Instant Capacity or HP
” section on page 18 for information on how to enable and use IAC.
While you use the five processing days of IAC, temporary capacity in 30 processing-day blocks can
be purchased and, after the IAC expires, used to enable immediate activation of processors when
required. While these resources are being used, you can submit an order for permanent activation or
additional temporary activation to HP.
Testing and evaluating HP Instant Capacity
The Instant Access Capacity provided with each iCAP processor can be used for trial purposes. In
addition, HP recommends that you purchase some amount of temporary capacity with every iCAP
processor, which can be used to ensure software compatibility with processor activation and measure
application performance boosts with additional processors.
No expiration of HP Instant Capacity
There is no time limit for activating Instant Capacity. iCAP components can be installed in a system
and can remain there inactive for as long as you own the system.
There is also no time limit on TiCAP, which can be applied to a system and kept available for future
use for as long as you own the system.
