Acquiring HP Instant Capacity resources
iCAP components can be acquired as part of the initial system purchase, added to an iCAP system (a
server that was ordered and installed with iCAP components), or added to a non-iCAP system (a
server that was ordered and installed with no iCAP components).
Figure 3. Process to acquire and install iCAP components
Purchasing and installing an iCAP system or adding iCAP components to an already installed non-
iCAP system is essentially the same process as acquiring standard system resources from HP with a
couple of additional steps as shown in Figure 3 and outlined as follows:
1. Submit a purchase order for the server, including the iCAP components, or for the add-on iCAP
components.
2. Install the iCAP server or iCAP components on-site, and configure partitions as desired.
3. Ensure all relevant patches necessary for correct Instant Capacity operation are installed (see the
current Instant Capacity user’s guide).
4. Ensure that the most current version of iCAP software is installed and running on each partition.
5. Configure Instant Capacity notifications to be sent to the designated iCAP system manager.
6. Become familiar with the HP Utility Pricing Solutions portal and the process for acquiring Instant
Capacity codewords.
7. If iCAP processors have been installed, go to the Utility Pricing Solutions portal and obtain the
codewords for the IAC.
