Resources Needed for Configuring a Large Number of Printers
HPDPS Miminum Configuration Requirements
High Availability
✓ The host must be part of a DCE cell.
✓ The host must be part of a ServiceGuard cluster.
HPDPS Configuration Test Scenario
In a test scenario, 1500 printers (1500 logical printers, 1500 physical
printers, and 1500 queues) were created with pdcreate in the Extended
Environment. Each spooler contains 50 logical printers and 50 queues.
Each supervisor contains 50 physical printers. Therefore, there were 30
spoolers in addition to 30 supervisors running on the machine.
PD_MAXTHREADS was set to 100 before the pdstartclient was invoked.
NOTE In order to process 100 simultaneous jobs directed to 100 printers across
30 spoolers and 30 supervisors, 3 or 4 printers in each server were
chosen. The PD_MAXRETRIES environment variable was set to 20 and
PD_RETRY_INTERVAL to 15
