Conﬁguring Spoolers, Queues, and Logical Printers

Creating and Conﬁguring HPDPS Spoolers

You can create and conﬁgure an HPDPS spooler using SAM or the

command line interface.

With SAM, you can directly create a spooler, or, you can create a spooler

when you add a physical printer, logical printer, or print queue.

From the command line, you can use the pdstartspl command and the

pdset commands to create, start, and conﬁgure HPDPS spoolers, as

shown in the sections below.

NOTE To simplify the security conﬁguration work for spoolers and the objects

they contain, you can conﬁgure DCE security for the spoolers before you

actually create the spoolers. See “Setting the Default Permissions

Granted by a Server and All Its Objects” in Chapter 8 for instructions

and procedures.

Creating or Starting the Spooler

To create or start a spooler from the command line use the pdstartspl

command and specify a spooler name.

For example, to start the spooler Spool1, enter:

pdstartspl Spool1

You must start the HPDPS spooler before you can conﬁgure spooler

attributes or attributes for logical printers and queues controlled by the

spooler.

The following are spooler naming conventions:

The characters in the name you specify for the spooler can include any

uppercase letter A through Z, any lowercase letter a through z, numbers

0-9, a hyphen, an underscore, or a period. This naming convention

applies to all HPDPS object names.

You should not start the spooler name or any other HPDPS object name

with a hyphen.
