HP-UX IPQoS A.01.00
Announcement
The following information is for HP-UX IPQoS A.01.00.
HP-UX IPQoS brings an HP-UX host into conformance with the Internet Engineering Task
Force (IETF) Differentiated Services (DiffServ) model on outbound HP-UX traffic. HP-UX
IPQoS provides differentiated classes of service on outbound HP-UX host traffic by
performing traffic classification (packet filtering) and traffic conditioning (packet metering,
shaping and marking) actions.
Outbound traffic is under HP-UX IPQoS control when an HP-UX IPQoS configuration is
loaded into the kernel. An HP-UX IPQoS configuration consists of user-supplied definitions of
traffic classes (specified as filters) and traffic-handling instructions to apply to the traffic
classes (specified as policies) that are assigned to configured adapters.
HP-UX IPQoS provides an important host-based component of a larger network traffic
management solution. HP-UX IPQoS hosts work with DiffServ-aware routers to provide
differentiated services on the network. HP-UX IPQoS cooperates with QoS policies and policy
management as configured in edge and core routers, and which can also be configured in the
switching infrastructure.
