HP UPD - System Administrator's Guide HP UPD 5.6.5
Supported tools
The following tools provided within the Print Administrators Resource Kit are eligible for HP technical
support.
●
Active Directory Template for UPD: This Active Directory template allows an Administrator to manage
the HP Universal Print Driver user Policies, and Printer Lists from within the Active Directory
infrastructure.
●
AutoUpgradeUPD: AutoUpgradeUPD.exe simplifies the process of creating clean print queues on a print
server. This is useful when upgrading the UPD driver version, upgrading an older non-UPD print queue
to use UPD, or resetting existing print queues to factory or preconfigured installation defaults. This tool
prevents existing queues from carrying forward unknown, incompatible and unstable configurations
during driver upgrade.
●
Driver Configuration Utility: Windows application used to edit the configuration file associated with a
particular driver. The configuration file controls the print driver settings and takes effect when the
driver is installed for both dynamic mode and traditional mode installation methods.
●
Driver Deployment Utility: A simple utility that packages the driver files, and the code needed to
deploy them, into an *.EXE and *.CAB file. These files are run on the client PC to copy the driver files to
the Windows driver store, and for network packages, to install the printer.
●
Managed Print Administrator: Create a customized print environment that groups users with similar
requirements and define which printers they can access. Create user groups, managed printer lists, and
managed print policies effortlessly. Control user access to settings like color, customize user
notifications, and job storage. Automatically generate XML files to define client side print policies and
printer lists. Create html clickable image maps to help users locate printers associated with managed
printer list.
●
PRNCON.EXE: Console application for adding and removing a network printer’s point-and-print
connection between a Windows client workstation and the print server to which it is connected.
