Windows Embedded 8 Standard for HP Thin Clients - Administrator Guide

Committing cached write data
To commit cached write data:
CAUTION: Be sure to know what changes have been made since the last restart so that unwanted
changes are not committed.
Use the command line to commit individual files or registry keys (see
Command line on page 6).
Adding files, folders, and registry keys to an exclusion list
Writes to files, folders, and registry keys in an exclusion list will not be intercepted by UWF, meaning
that the changes are always permanent and do not require a thin client restart.
CAUTION: Keep this list to a minimum to decrease wear on the flash drive.
The following table describes the different methods for adding files, folders, and registry keys to an
exclusion list.
Method 1 Method 2
1. Open the HP Write Filter Configuration utility.
2. Click either the File Exclusion List tab or the Registry
Exclusion List tab.
3. Click Add, and then specify the item to add to the
exclusion list.
4. Restart the thin client.
1. Use the command line to add files, folders, and registry
keys to the exclusion list.
2. Restart the thin client.
TIP: Files, folders, and registry keys can also be removed from the exclusion list using either the HP Write Filter
Configuration utility or the command line. A thin client restart is required for the removal to take effect.
The following table defines the icons that are used when the exclusion list is viewed in the HP Write
Filter Configuration utility.

The item is excluded.
The newly added item will become excluded after the next thin client restart.
The item will be removed from the exclusion list after the next thin client restart.
Clearing the boot command
Clearing the boot command cancels a previously specified write filter action (such as Enable, Disable)
that would take place on the next thin client restart.
To clear the boot command:
Right-click the UWF status icon in the notification area and select Clear Command.
