1 Getting started HP Hotkey Filter is a security utility for Windows®-based HP thin clients. In many thin client deployments, access to the local Windows desktop and the local Windows file system is not necessary and might be undesirable. This utility allows a user to lock and unlock their remote desktop session without affecting the local Windows instance. This can be used to simplify deployment. HP Hotkey Filter is designed to work with shell-replacement software packages like HP ThinShell.
Installing and enabling HP Hotkey Filter HP Hotkey Filter is available as a downloadable SoftPaq. Follow the SoftPaq prompts to complete the installation. After HP Hotkey Filter is installed on the system, it must be enabled by using the following procedure: 1. Select Start > Control Panel > HP Hotkey Filter. TIP: If viewing the Control Panel as categories, select Start > Control Panel > System and Security > HP Hotkey Filter.
2 Known issues and limitations HP Hotkey Filter is intended for Kiosk Mode deployments. Users should not have access to the thin client hardware or be able to connect or disconnect peripherals of any kind. In addition, there are some technical limitations to consider: ● HP Hotkey Filter supports both PS/2 and USB keyboards, but only one keyboard can be filtered at a time. ● If a keyboard is disconnected and reconnected to the thin client during the session, then it will not be filtered.
