HP Smart Client Administrator's Guide

3 Client Usage
This hardware and software combination gives the user the power to remotely connect into many
servers with different operating systems. This provides the user with a variety of powerful computers
from the user’s desk.
Very little hardware setup is required: connect an active network cable, a mouse, a keyboard, and a
monitor, and then connect a power cord and plug it into a power outlet. If the HP Smart Client Service
is enabled and configured to connect clients to a valid remote connection server, the client
automatically configures itself and boots to a login screen. Users can then enter their credentials to log
in to the pre-configured, remote connection server.

Demo mode (no server configured)
When the client first boots and cannot contact the HP Smart Client Service, it will boot into demo mode.
This mode allows the user to manually choose the remote connection server and URL. This allows users
to quickly test the unit for a demo or for a very small environment in which a remote configuration
service is not required.
