HP Systems Insight Manager 7.2 Technical Reference Guide
2. Under Select the default version control repository, select a system that has the HP VCRM
installed.
NOTE: A trust relationship must be established between Systems Insight Manager and the
system that has the HP VCRM installed. See Trusted certificates for more information regarding
trust relationships. After the trust relationship is established, click Last Update to update the
Trusted? column to Yes.
3. Under Contents of selected version control repository, click the icon to drill down and view
the contents of the selected Version Control Repository.
NOTE: To expand the tree to display all contents, click the icon, located in the upper-left
corner of the Contents of selected version control repository section. Click the icon to
collapse the listings.
NOTE: Click any column heading to sort by that column in ascending or descending order.
NOTE: This section displays systems that are authorized by the current user. If the current
user is not authorized to view any systems with the HP Version Control Repository Manager,
the system will not be listed in the Select the default Version Control Repository section. If there
are no discoveredsystems running the HP VCRM, a message appears, indicating that no
repository could be found.
4. Click OK to apply your selection. A message appears, indicating if the repository setting was
successfully saved.
Credentials used in HP SIM
Credentials are used by HP SIM to authenticate to managed systems when requesting data or
configuring systems. These credentials can be configured several ways. Each type is best suited
to different datacenter environments.
1. System credentials
Are configured at the system-level and apply directly to the system itself. When configured,
these credentials are tried first during identification. This is the most efficient and the most
secure way to manage credentials. While each credential can be unique, they can be managed
as a group for ease of use. System credentials can be set by selecting
Options→Security→Credentials→System Credentials.
2. Discovery task credentials
Are configured in a discovery task and will be attempted for all systems discovered by the
discovery task. They are usually a short list of credentials that are shared among a number of
systems that are discovered at the same time. They are fast to configure and are well suited
to groups of systems that share common credentials. They are managed as a group, and it is
important to keep the list small to avoid the issues associated with Global credentials. Discovery
credentials can be added or edited from the Options→Discovery page.
3. Global credentials
Can be applied to all systems and protocols. These credentials are tried on all systems until
one is successful. This can result in poor performance, and result in server sign-in failures,
potentially triggering a security event. Global credentials are well suited to environments when
all the systems use one of a very short list of credentials. Global credentials can be set by
selecting Options→Security→Credentials→Global Credentials.
Regardless of where the credentials are configured, HP SIM uses the following algorithm to determine
what credentials to use to access a system: During the identification process (done automatically
during discovery), credentials are tried, starting with System credentials. If they do not work, and
the Try Others setting is chosen for them, then Discovery credentials are used. Similarly, if those
