HP Systems Insight Manager 7.2 Technical Reference Guide

Manage communications Learn More links
The Manage Communications feature allows you to troubleshoot communication issues between
the CMS and target systems. You can reconfigure communication settings, launch agents, and
push certificates to target systems.
For more information on using the Manage Communications feature, see Managing
Communications.
HP SIM and firewalls
A firewall might prevent HP SIM from communicating with the managed system. If a firewall is
installed on the managed system or between the HP SIM CMS and the managed system, then it
must be configured to allow management communication. The CMS must be able to make requests
to and receive responses from the managed system, and the managed system must be able to send
alerts to the CMS.
Ports used by HP SIM that might need to be configured in a firewall
The following inbound ports must be open on each managed system:
ProtocolPortDescription
ICMPICMPPing Discovery (ICMP)**
HTTPTCP 80Ping Discovery (TCP)**
SSHTCP 22SSH port++
SNMPUDP 161SNMP Agent
HTTPTCP 2301HP SMH Web Server*
HTTPSTCP 2381HP SMH Secure Web Server*
HTTPSTCP 5989WBEM/WMI Mapper Secure Port+
The following outbound ports must be open to allow communication between a managed system
and the CMS. Not all firewalls on managed systems block outbound requests.
ProtocolPortDescription
SNMPUDP 162SNMP Trap
SNMP (version 3)UDP 50005SNMPv3
HTTPSTCP 50004WBEM/WMI Mapper Secure Port+
* If the system is not being managed from HP SIM, only ports 2301 and 2381 must be configured
to enable browser access to HP SMH.
** Usage is configurable in HP SIM, and ICMP echo is used by default.
+ Only open port 5989 and 50004 on a Windows system if the WMI mapper is installed.
++ Only open port 22 if OpenSSH is installed.
