HP Version Control 6.0 Installation Guide
6 Installing the VCA using the Linux Deployment Utility
The Linux Deployment Utility provides an easy and efficient method to upgrade and manage system software.
The utility enables you to deploy and maintain ProLiant and Integrity Support Pack software on local servers
through use of the terminal window and on remote servers through use of the secure shell (ssh) utility. The
Linux Deployment Utility is shipped with the Linux ProLiant and Integrity Support Pack, which is available on
the HP SmartStart DVD. The Linux Deployment Utility enables you to install components or ProLiant and
Integrity Support Packs in-place, but not remotely.
The Linux Deployment Utility parses the .XML files associated with each component and verifies whether the
installation of those components is supported on the specific environment. The components that are supported
for installation are listed with a status icon indicating whether the component should be installed, and whether
it should be configured. Configuring or pre-configuring the VCA component is optional.
Pre-configuring the VCA component
Note: All pre-configuration settings are saved in the component XML file.
To pre-configure the VCA component:
1. Run the installxxx.sh script. The HP ProLiant LDU page appears.
2. Select VCA for Linux
3. Right-click and select Configure Component. The Configuration Options page appears.
a. In the Server Name field, enter the VCRM system name.

4. After pre-configuration is complete, installation can be initiated through the Linux Deployment Utility as
part of the complete ProLiant and Integrity Support Pack or the single component can be installed
independently.
Installing the VCA as a single component
You can install the VCA independently of other components included in the ProLiant and Integrity Support
Pack.
To install the VCA as a single component:
1. Run the installxxx.sh script. The HP ProLiant Linux Deployment Utility page appears.
2. Select all components
except
the VCA component.
3. Right-click all other components and select Do Not Install component.
Note: The VCA component can also be installed by invoking the following command from the shell
prompt:
./install820######.sh –c hpvca-2.2.x-x.*linux.rpm
4. This process installs the component with the configurations that are provided through the Linux Deployment
Utility.
