HP SVA V2.1 Release Notes
1 Welcome to the HP Scalable Visualization Array V2.1
Release
The HP SVA development team is pleased to offer this version of its SVA product. This
visualization solution combines a cluster of industry standard workstations and servers running
HP XC and HP-developed software APIs and utilities (SVA Visualization System Software).
Together, these hardware and software components bring the power of parallel computing to
the task of image visualization for large data sets.
This Readme First document has several important sections:
• Contents of the SVA V2.1 Kit.
• How to Install the Documentation Library.
• Release Notes.
1.1 SVA V2.1 Kit
This section describes the current distribution and setup for the software components of the SVA.
1.1.1 Contents of the Kit
You should receive the following SVA kit components:
• An HP XC DVD, which contains the HP XC System Software V3.2, and includes the SVA
software components.
The SVA software has a set of rpm files that includes the HP-developed Visualization System
Software (VSS), job launch scripts, and manpages.
• An HP XC Documentation CD, which contains the HP XC system documentation and the
HP SVA documentation.
1.1.2 First Steps
The main task you or HP Field Service needs to carry out before you can use the SVA is to
complete any site-specific configuration work for the cluster at your site. You also should verify
that the SVA is working as expected. You should begin these two tasks by reviewing the HP XC
System Software Installation Guide and the HP SVA Readme/Release Notes (this document).
Use the Cluster Platform Linux hardware installation documentation (available at
www.docs.hp.com) to finish configuring the hardware for your cluster. Note that the cluster was
cabled and set up before it left HP so the remaining tasks are mainly site-specific configuration,
including setting up displays. The HP SVA System Administration Guide has information about
setting up displays for your cluster.
Once you or HP Field Service complete these tasks, use the HP XC System Software Installation
Guide to run some tests to verify the SVA operation.
1.1.3 Viewing SVA Documentation
You can view the complete SVA Documentation Library directly from the HP XC Documentation
CD, which was shipped to you as part of your kit, using a Windows or Linux system. The Library
contains several guides in pdf and html format. Manpages for SVA job launch commands and
functions are installed on the visualization nodes as part of the SVA installation.
You can access the following main navigation page for the Documentation Library on the HP
XC Documentation CD at the top level of the CD:
