HP SVA V1.1 Patch Kit 3 Readme/Release Notes
3. HP XC: XC patch is incompatible with SVA
• Impact
High
• Summary
The XC patch XCV3.0-X86_64-1000334956 contains an updated X Server which is
incompatible with SVA.
• Solution
We recommend that you do not install this HP XC patch. The X Server delivered as a
part of HP SVA includes an extension which permits multi-tile displays to work
effectively; that extension is absent from the X Server in this XC patch. It is possible to
modify the SVA installation to work in the presence of this XC patch by taking the
following actions:
a. Edit the file /opt/sva/bin/svainit.
b. Locate and remove occurrences of the string -disablexineramaextension.
However, by removing this extension, you will adversely affect the functioning of
multi-tile displays in the following ways:
— The GNOME panels at the top and bottom of a typical desktop screen are now
confined to one panel of the display rather than stretching across the top and bottom
of the entire set of displays.
— Windows which are maximized only maximize to one tile, rather than to the whole
display.
4. Configuration Data Files: Incorrect Syntax Leads to an Unstable System
• Impact
Medium.
• Summary
The Configuration Data Files (the Site Configuration File and the User Configuration
File) must use the correct syntax as documented in the SVA System Administration Guide
or the cluster may become unstable.
• Solution
Any changes to the Configuration Data Files must conform to the documented syntax.
The SVA System Administration Guide also documents the svaverify utility, which
you can run to verify the syntax of the Configuration Data Files.
It is also useful to keep a backup copy when making changes.
5. Displays: Display Surface Names Cannot Have Spaces
• Impact
Low.
• Summary
The Display Surface Configuration Tool can only create Display Surfaces without spaces
in the name.
• Solution
Use names without spaces, for example, MY_DISPLAY rather than MY DISPLAY.
