HP Scalable Visualization Array, V1.1 Readme/Release Notes
1 Welcome to the HP Scalable Visualization Array V1.1
Release
The HP SVA development team is pleased to offer this initial version of its SVA product. This new visualization
solution combines a cluster of industry standard PCs running HP XC and HP-developed software APIs and
utilities (SVA Visualization System Software). Together, these hardware and software components bring the
power of parallel computing to the task of image visualization for large data sets.
This Readme First document has several important sections:
• Contents of the SVA V1.1 Kit.
• How to Install the Documentation Library.
• Release Notes.
SVA V1.1 Kit
This section describes the current distribution and setup for the software components of the SVA.
Contents of the Kit
You should receive the following SVA kit components:
• This
Read Me First/Release Notes
document
This document explains how to manually install all the online documentation and also contains the
release notes.
• A single SVA V1.1 CD and a single HP XC DVD
The SVA software includes a set of rpm files that includes the HP-developed visualization system software
(VSS), and a set of online documentation and release notes. The HP XC DVD contains HP XC System
Software V3.0.
First Steps
The main task you or HP Field Service need to carry out before you can use the SVA is to complete any
site-specific configuration work for the cluster at your site. You also should verify that the SVA is working as
expected. You should begin these two tasks by reviewing the
SVA Software Installation Guide
and
Readme/Release Notes
found on the SVA CD. To access the
SVA Software Installation Guide
on the CD:
1. Place the SVA CD into the CD-ROM drive on your PC. (You could also do this using a Linux workstation.)
2. You now have several options:
• Locate the
SVA Software Installation Guide
(vis_install.pdf) and the
Readme/Release Notes
(readme.pdf ) in the top-level directory. You can view the
SVA Software Installation Guide
using
Adobe Acrobat and print it out for reference.
• You can also access the complete online Documentation Library, which includes the
SVA Software
Installation Guide
. See “Install Online Documentation” (pg. 7) for more information.
3. Use the Cluster Platform Linux hardware installation documentation (available at www.docs.hp.com)
to finish configuring the hardware for your cluster. Note that the cluster was cabled and set up before
it left HP so the remaining tasks are mainly site-specific configuration. Once you or HP Field Service
complete these tasks, use the
SVA Software Installation Guide
to run some tests to verify the SVA
operation.
Install Online Documentation
You can wait until the cluster is up and running and view the online Documentation Library already installed
on all the nodes. The documentation files are in /var/www/html/sva. (/var/www/html is where Apache
stores HTML files on Red Hat systems.) Once installed on a system which has Apache running, you can
access the documentation from that system at the URL https://localhost/sva. Open index.htm to view the
Table of Contents, which displays all the online books. Most documents are available in html and pdf.
