Web-Based Library Administrator On-line Help
Welcome to the Web-Based Library Administrator The Web-Based Library Administrator provides monitoring of HP Surestore 10/180 and 20/700 tape libraries through a web browser on the network.
Monitoring Using the Cellmap The Cellmap provides a real-time physical view of the library. In addition, some troubleshooting activities can be performed using the cell map. To display the cellmap: é Select Monitor->Cell Map. The physical view includes: Storage Cells - Displays cartridges’ location by panel, row, column, and cell. - Each cell displays the cartridge ID, volser, and media type. - Provides a physical view of problem areas in the form of a cluster of cells.
Caution: Pressing Clear Log clears all the FSC entries in the library. Tape Inventory The Tape Inventory screen displays the location of one or more tapes in the physical library by: é Element ID é Label é Media type To display the Tape Inventory screen: é Select Monitor->Tapes. To view the physical location of the selected tapes on the cellmap: 1. Select two or more cartridges while holding down the key. 2. Select Monitor->Cell Map to view the physical location of the tape cartridge(s) selected.
Maintenance Diagnostics Diagnostics allows you to clean a drive, as well as test the functionality of the following: é Robotic hand assembly using Get-Put loops é Drives through practice mounts and dismounts é Robot by testing in a Demo mode To display the Diagnostics screen: é Select Maintenance->Diagnostics To cancel an operation: 1. Click Stop. 2. Enter your library password and click OK. Note: You can have this field automatically populated with the password by clicking remember password.
To test the function of the robot: 1. Click the Demo tab to simulate a tape library operation. CAUTION: Audit update required: If DEMO MODE is interrupted, Get-Put Loop operations will become disrupted, and cartridges may not be returned to their original locations. When DEMO MODE completes, you must IPL to re-audit the library, and your backup software applications . You must then notify the customer to update the host cartridge database. 2. 3. Click Start. Enter your library password and click OK.
5. 6. Click Print to print the report immediately. Click Close to close the generated report window. Contacting HP Library Support This screens allows you to connect to the HP Support Web Site. To do this: 1. Click Maintenance->Support. 2. Click Support. The HP Support web page is displayed. Rebooting the Library To reboot your library: 1. Select Maintenance->Reboot. 2. Click Reboot.
Statistics Library Statistics This screen provides the following library statistics for: é Get and Put totals.
Cleaning This screen provides the following list of cleaning cartridge statistics by: é Element ID é Label é Media type é Usage count é Expired status To display the Cleaning Statistics screen: é Select STATS->CLEANING
Configuration Configuring a Library The Library Configuration screen displays the code and hardware version, as well as the build level of the code. You can also change the following library configuration information: é Interface type (SCSI) é Library location é Date and time To configure the library options: é Click CONFIG->LIBRARY. To configure the port address for SCSI: 1. Click the SCSI tab. 2. Select the SCSI Number. 3. Click Apply. 4. Enter your library password and click OK.
é é ID Firmware version To set the SCSI ID: 1. Click on the ID field and select the SCSI ID. 2. Click Apply. 3. Enter your library password and click OK. Configuring the Network Address The Network Address screen allows you to set: é IP Address é Subnet mask é Gateway é Library name é SNMP agent or recipient To add a network address: 1. Click CONFIG->NETWORK 2. Enter the IP Address or accept the default. 3. Enter the Subnet mask or accept the default. 4. Enter the Gateway or accept the default. 5.
To return to the Host’s original values: é Click Set Recipient Defaults to return the Host values to the original values (if Apply has not be pressed).
Troubleshooting Troubleshooting If tapes are not being successfully mounted, dismounted, entered or ejected, there are some ways you can troubleshoot the problem with the Web-Based Library Administrator. The following are some examples: é View the drive retry statistics in order to see the drive with the most retries, as well as the Element ID, Row, and Column of the drive that is having the problem. To do this: - Select STATS->DRIVES.
FAQs My error rate has increased dramatically Q: My error rate has increased dramatically. Is there some way I can diagnose the cause? A: There could be a hardware problem with the robotic arm. To verify: 1. Click STATS->CELLS for Cell Retry Statistics. 2. Select all the cells that have the highest Gets/Puts counts. 3. Click MONITOR->CELLMAP to view the cellmap. The previously selected cells are highlighted. High retry rate Q: My Get/Put retry rates are high.
Glossary CAP The cartridge access port (CAP) is an assembly that allows you to enter or eject cartridges to or from the library without interrupting normal library operations. Cell A slot in the tape library that is used to store a tape cartridge. The client software locates data cartridges by panel, column, row, and cell. Client This is the communications from the library to the processor. Community Each SNMP managed object belongs to a community. A community is defined by a community name.
Drive SCSI ID The SCSI address for the drive. Drive States Examples of valid drive states are: Status Message INIT Required Not Connected Drive Empty Unknown Explanation You must initialize this drive. This drive is not connected to a SCSI bus. There are no cartridges in this drive. The library does not recognize the type of drive in this location. Drive Type Valid drive types are: é DLT 8000 é 9840 é LTO Ultrium Element ID The element is a location or component inside the library.
The firmware is the embedded software in the drive. FSC The 4-digit alphanumeric Fault System Code (FSC) generated by functional or diagnostic software that may directly or indirectly be used to indicate the field replaceable unit (FRU) which may be causing the error. FSC Log The Fault System Code (FSC) log is a list of library-generated messages, each of which relays a FSC and the time and date of the occurrence. The GUI displays the last 20 events recorded for a library or drive.
Label é é é Also called volser. Valid characters are A-Z, 0-9, # (crosshatch), or trailing blanks. Leading blanks are not permitted. Library Name This is the assigned name that maps to the Internet Protocol (IP) address for a library. The library name is assigned by your system administrator.
Resets A reset starts an initial microcode program load to a library. During Resets (IPL), the library: é initializes the robotic components é audits any cartridges in the storage cells é automatically verifies some configuration values, such as drive locations and drive types A reset occurs when: é The library is powered on é The main door is opened é The RESET button is pressed Server The server is a processor that runs an operating system and uses the library for data storage and retrieval.
Example: 255.255.254.0 To change the subnet mask, select: CONFIG->NETWORK Swap Cell The cell among the reserved cells into which the robot might temporarily place a data cartridge. Usage Count The number of times the cleaning cartridge has been used since it was installed in the library. Vendor Manufacturer of the drive. Volser The volume serial label (VOLSER) is an alphanumeric label used by client software to identify a volume, and sometimes the tape contents. • • • Also called tape label.
