Scanning for Hosts Finds Only the Host You Are
Scanning From
Symptom Cause/Solution
When you scan for
hosts in SAN
Manager LM, only the
host you are scanning
from is listed in the
main window.
The host’s connection to the Microsoft network is not
configured correctly. Verify this cause by checking other
applications that use the network, such as Network
Neighborhood and File Sharing. Reconfigure the network
connection and parameters such that you can see hosts in Network
Neighborhood and browse into their file shares.
Other SAN Manager LM hosts are not in the same LAN domain
or workgroup. Verify this cause by using Network
Neighborhood to determine if other hosts are on the network
and which domain or workgroup they appear in. Move hosts into
the same domain or workgroup, or add other hosts manually using
their NetBIOS names.
Hosts are inaccessible via TCP/IP due to incorrect
configuration. Verify this cause by using the command-line
ping utility to determine if hosts are accessible. Four possible
solutions are listed below:
Ensure that TCP/IP is installed. If not, install it from your Windows
NT CD-ROM.
Check the IP subnet numbers and masks on local and remote
hosts and make sure they match.
Check the routing tables on local and remote hosts.
Check LAN cables, hubs, switches, etc.
The other hosts do not have NETBIOS names. This is
frequently the case for non-Windows NT hosts. Use the Add
Host dialog box to add hosts by their DNS names or static IP
numbers (see page 108 for instructions).
