204 SAN Manager LM Detects Multiple Writers to the Same Device(s)
Symptom Cause/Solution
SAN Manager LM
warns you that a
multiple writer
situation exists.
A multiple writer situation was created during a SAN Manager LM
database restoration.
This occurs in rare cases under the following conditions:
A device is assigned to a host before a database file is restored.
The restored database file indicates that the same device is
assigned to a different host.
SAN Manager LM assigns the device to the host in the restored
database file, but the host that the device was assigned to before the
database restoration will not release the device.
To solve this problem:
1. Note the device name and the host from which it cannot be disabled,
then click OK.
2. Take any steps necessary to get the listed host to release the device.
This may include closing files, applications, or windows, or shutting
down the host.
3. Click the Scan for Hosts button.
During the Scan for Hosts process, SAN Manager LM resolves
device assignments by unassigning devices from hosts that
should not have them. If the listed host still cannot release the
device, the warning dialog shown above appears again. Repeat
steps 1 through 3.
